Hello! i am from england and am traveling to toronto in march, could anybody please tell me where and where not to go, i am into rock music, poetry and alternative art. I had a very interesting experience in paris two years ago and would not wish it to happen again (i enjoy a drink!) thanks for your time and efforts!

kiefy,<BR><BR>Don't think there are too many spots in Toronto you should definitely stay away from. There are areas that have bad reputations but they are not easy to get to even if you are lost. Downtown is quite safe and as a woman I have never felt afraid and only a couple of times felt uncomfortable when walking alone. If you are loaded and start mouthing off to people for no reason, you might find trouble - you really have to be looking for it.

Why would anybody in their right mind pick March for a visit to Toronto - along with November, they are truly bleak months. However, having said that, I agree with the previous author that there aren't any defined no-go areas and you do have to be either unlucky or be looking for a scuffle. Am into cocooning recently so can't provide any info re your interests. But there's no shortage of clubs, pubs, etc. - am sure you'll have a good time.

My brother and I visited Toronto last November, which was very cold. We were at numerous dance clubs socializing with the locals and having a good time. When we arrived at our hotel we realized we had both been pickpocketed during the evening. So, I suggest you safeguard your wallet. We had the same problem in Montreal two years ago.

Both were pickpocketed in Toronto in one night (and in Montreal?)? I find that hard to believe. Not to say that people's pockets don't ever get picked in these cities BUT can I just say that I lived in Montreal for 5 years, visited Toronto on a number of occasions. And not once was my pocket picked, and I certainly didn't lead a hermit's existence. Not ONLY that, I can't think of a single friend who's been pickpocketed and I have a lot of friends in both cities. <BR><BR>I'm sorry if it happened to you and your brother, but frankly what you say is unheard of.

Unlike Daniel, I've had my wallet stolen twice in Toronto. I live here and I hate to admit that I was that careless! Both times were on the streetcar. First time, I was really exhausted, working long hours and I wasn't even aware of it until I got home. Just as I was calling Visa to report a lost card, I got a call from them asking if I was authorizing the long distance charges that someone was trying to rack up. Second time, it was pouring rain, the streetcar was packed with people and I had bags, umbrella, etc. As soon as the guy moved away from me, I knew my wallet was gone. I looked down and checked my purse just as he jumped off the streetcar when it stopped. Since then I've changed purses so I'm not so vulnerable. I also am a lot more aware of what gones on around me. I don't take the streetcar when it's so crowded, especially when I can see an empty one just a block or so away. It's not the money that was taken - replacing the ID was a major headache. Like many women, I carried my lifestory in my wallet. What can I say - I was really careless! <BR>

Daniel, how dare you state that these innocent people could not have been pick-pocketed in Tornto and Montreal. You must be living in denial. I live in Toronto and know we have this unfortunate problem. And, even more so in Montreal.

I'm glad I was challenged on this. I suppose I was surprised, as I didn't think pickpocketing as rampant a problem as in say, major European centers. I'd be interested to see some statistics on the matter to see how Toronto and Montreal compare with other major world cities on the amount of pickpocketing. <BR><BR>
