Where in Toronto to propose??

Hi...I'm wondering what the ideal place would be to ask my girlfriend to marry me. We'll be flying into Toronto from Chicago over Labor Day weekend(friday to monday) and staying at . Would Niagra Falls be the best?? We do not have a rental car, so is it worthwhile to do a bus trip over there?? Is there another very romantic/scenic place someone would recommend?? Also, can anyone tell me if there are any festivals going on during Labor day weekend?? Anything we shouldn't miss?? We're in our mid-20's, so anything pertaining to our age group (cool bars, shows, restaurants etc...) would be ideal. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have. Thanks and take care...

Not sure about the best spot to propose - maybe the elegant lounge at the top of First Canadian Place might work....
As far as clubbing, check out Guvernment. It's a mega dance club that often hosts concerts. Their website (do a yahoo search on guvernment and toronto) has all the details.

Going all the way to NF by bus would not be worth the effort in my opinion. Also Niagara is so busy, esp. Labour Day Weekend. Why don't you take her to Harbourfront and pop the question there? You could also do the CN Tower thing assuming she's not afrid of heights!

I didn't know there's a nice lounge on the top of First Canadian Place, so double check this.

If all you have are a few days, don't bother with Niagra Falls. But if you do go, rent a car so you can control where and when you go and what you see.

You could propose on the Maid of the Mist boat at the foot of Niagra Falls, saying somehitng corny like "I have fallen for you and want the waves of outr love forever." Becareful, though. If she hates corn, you're in trouble.

Top of the CN Tower would be a good place; there's a very nice bar and restaurant up there, in addition to the touristy things.

The Canadian National Exhibition and a giant air show are on that weekend, put there will be lots of other things to do, too.

You might go to the Art Gallery of Ontario and wander around until you saw a romanitc enough painting, get talking to her about it, and pop the question when looking a a scene in France, say.

Expaning on Harbourfront ... there are crusie boatsd from there, so abord one of those at sunset might prompt her to say yes.

Bak that was corny!!! and hilarious. I'm still laughing as I type this post. I vote for dinner at the CN Tower because 1: It would be very romantic just at Sunset 2: No other place like it in the world.

Correction on my post about the bar in First Canadian Place. It's actually in the Toronto Dominion Centre (54th floor) and it's called the Canoe Bar. It's got a fantastic panorama south toward the harbor.

Hi there,

You may not have heard about Casa Loma which believe it or not is actually a real castle built approx. 100 yrs ago. The gardens are beautiful and could definitely be considered romantic. Weddings are often held at the castle. Here's the URL:

As for restaurants, I like the following:

San - Queen St West
Airport Lounge - College St West
Kalendar - College St West
Boiler House - in the Distillery District (this area is a must-see)

Bars and clubs that I recommend are:
Habitat
Una Mas
The Chelsea Room
Chocolate
Up and Down
Roxy Blu
Inside Lounge
System Soundbar
Guvernment

Also, try this website for extensive reviews of dining and nightlife in Toronto.

I would suggest the Canoe Bar / Restaurant at the top of the TD Center - great spot for dinner (very Canadian menu and it would be the most romantic), or on the ferry boat to Center Island if she's into that type of thing or the Top of the CN Tower (they have a glass floor you could stand on that looks down to the ground (very touristy).

Definitely the 360 Restaurant on top of the CN Tower. It is so distinctively Toronto, unique, and romantic. I'm sure the staff there could help you out with setting it up. I would not want to have to spend time on a bus after being proposed to, I'd rather head to the phones or the room (I'm remebering back when I was proposed to). Why not be on top of the world when you're feeling that way?

Canoe does have a great view, but is very "suit-oriented". Also, I don't think it's open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays. The CN Tower is a more reliable sky-high view option, if that's what you want to go for. I think Casa Loma would be more romantic.
