Where can I go in a days drive from calgary?

I was thinking of taking my girlfriend on a trip over the November long weekend, I was thinking Vancouver or Banff.

What's the weather like that time of year, what is there to do?

Those are two completely different places. One, a cosmopolitan city on the ocean surrounded by mountains and temperate rainforests. The other a small town in the middle of a National Park in the Rockies.

November is the bleakest time of the year to be visiting both. Vancouver will be dark, rainy, and cold. Banff will be dark, snowy, and colder.

Where are you from?
How long do you have?
Tell us about yourselves - what are you interested in?
How do you plan to get around?

I'm from Calgary

I have 4 days.

Mostly I'm interested in spending some time with my girlfriend, she's been really busy this month. I like to ski, and she likes to fish. i would thing it's too early for one and too late for the other. if you have any other suggestions I'd like to hear them.

I'm driving.

Vancouver is a long drive from Calgary - 10'ish hours or so, or basically one full day each way. If you only have four days, why spend two of them driving, especially when the Rockies are right on your doorstep in Calgary?

Marmot Basin, near Jasper, is hoping to open November 11th this year. www.skimarmot.com Jasper is a 5 hour drive from Calgary, up the stunningly beautiful Icefields Parkway.

Lake Louise Ski Area is tentatively scheduled to open Nov 5 and Sunshine Village is also expecting to open the first week of November, so you may be able to ski that weekend without a long drive.

they do have flights from Vancouver to Calgary, less then 2 hours. I realize this post is old, but don't want someone who ever sees it again to not be aware that a flight is a decent option between two cities if time is a factor.
