Whats in Surrey?Hotels?

Hello, anybody familiar wih the town "Surrey"? How is the "day's Inn" hotel there?
It's suppose to be close to the Skytrain to Vancouver. How long will that ride be, and what will it cost?
Any other hotel suggestions? Attractions?
Thanks a lot, Leo from Holland

Surrey is a suburb located about 1 hour's drive southeast of Vancouver. It is primarily a residential community, with a lot of farmland as well. If you love to golf, there's lots of good courses around there. Other than that, there's not much for tourists to see around there. The Skytrain is the light rapid transit system that runs from Surrey at one end to downtown Vancouver at the other. It takes about 35 minutes for the whole trip. The bonus here is that most of the system is elevated so you will get a good view of Vancouver while you ride. The cost to ride is $3 per adult during peak hours, each way. Check www.translink.bc.ca. Even though the system is totally automated, it is safe for tourists to take.
The Days Hotel in Surrey was formerly known as the Surrey Inn. Check www.surreyinn.com. I don't know that specific hotel very well, but the Days Inn chain is generally geared to providing reliable, inexpensive, clean accommodation. The hotels and motels are usually located near highways. I stayed with several motels with this chain about 10 years ago in Eastern Canada, and thoroughly enjoyed it back then. I think they are still pretty good now.
Other alternatives for finding affordable accommodations in Vancouver area:
- Call Hello BC (government sponsored service) at 1-800-435-5622. I don't know if it works outside of North America. They provide trip planning and counselling services, and can reserve accommodations.
- Contact a bed & breakfast registry like Best Canadian Bed & Breakfast Reservations. Call at (604) 738-7207 or via the Balfour Inn at www.balfourbb.com
- Try student housing like University of BC. Check keclean.vcc.bc.ca/idiploma/vcc_title_locA5.html#ubctop

Thanks a lot Kenny, you've been a big help.
I have still 1 question left. We wanted to stay in Surrey and take the skytrain each day to Vancouver. Can this be done?
Thanks again, Leo

Hi Leo. Yes, you will have no problem staying in Surrey and taking the Skytrain to and from Vancouver every day. The frequency runs between 3 minutes apart during peak daytime hours and about 15 minutes apart during the late evenings.

Hi Leo,

If you are still looking to stay in Surrey I would suggest you stay at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel. It is close to all amenities and is right on the bus route to the skytrain. The phone number is (604) 582-9288.

Ruby
