What's a budget-minded way to call USA from Canada?
What's an economical way to place phonecalls from Canada to the USA? I have found that my ATT prepaid phone card charges 2 units to call Canada from the states and 5 units to call the states from Canada. A "unit" is about 3 1/2 cents (USD).
Can you offer a better solution?
Thank you,
Sharon

I've never used a phone card to call from Canada to the U.S. I live in Canada, so I always call the U.S. from my home phone.
However, a Google search for PHONE CARD + CANADA + USA brought up this website that claims to rate phone cards that cover calls from Canada to the U.S. If everything that the website says is true, Cardinal, which charges 1.9 cents / minute, looks like the best deal.

Thank you for the link. My son attends the University of Waterloo in Ontario and his girlfriend is going to school in New York. They are separated by only 3 hours driving time, but an international boundary that really jacks up phone expenses. I was thinking about purchasing an international calling card for him as a Christmas gift and would like to find one that gives the biggest bang for the buck.
Then again, perhaps my son should find out what the international rates would be if he called from the phone in his dorm-room.

www.yak.ca.
Dialing a few #'s saves a lot of money-I use it exclusively now.
For instance Telus charges $2.40/minute to phone Tobago from BC-with Yak.ca it's $0.40/minute.
Deals to the USA and across Canada are even better.

Sharon, is the phone in your son's name? If so, ther eare a few really good plans out now.
10-10-710- plus the number is .99 a call for 30 minutes.
Also, a friend of mine has just signed up with Win-Tel. With an access code, each call is .25 , no matter how long they talk.It sounds like a fabulous deal, but don't know how it works if the phone is not in his name.
