What do you bring back from the U.S.?
Heading to Florida and so far on my list are Zicam and Jiffy Cornmeal Muffin Mix. Can't find either here in Canada. Wonder what else you might be buying on your U.S. trip that we can't get here?

Hello Canuckuphereathome,
I didn't have a clue what Zicam was, so did a Google search on it, and found this article on a website that issues news about potentially harmful drugs. I don't have a vested interest one way or the other, and I don't know how credible the website is, but here it is for what it's worth: http://www.adrugrecall.com/zicam/zicam.html |
Geez..I have lost my sense of smell/taste in the past with a virus and will not take any medication that might risk my chances of that happening again. Horrible experience. Thanks very much for the link.

I have used Zicam for the last few years at the first sign of a cold and it has worked great.
I have heard about the loss of taste/smell though...but that is with the Zicams that are either the nasal spray or the nasal swabs. I use the chewables. So just a thought that maybe this might still work for you. |
Hello from Florida, canuckuphereathome! Speaking from the opposite perspective, there's a few things that I can't get here but try to bring back from Canada. Would trade you some Jiffy Cornmeal Muffin Mix for Rogers Plantation brown sugar cubes.... (personally, I think you have more to bargain with than I do!)

Zicam spray has been on the Us market-over-the counter 3+ years. It has zinc in it and for many if it is taken at the the very onset of a cold it has accelerated their cold but cut down on the length of a winter cold by 60+%.
Hope that helps! |
My father used to bring back to Canada from the US cans of Dinty Moore's Corned Beef hash.
Two or three cans at a time. Canada Customs never argued. Right now, serious photographers should bring back Sekonic light meters and Photoflex Octalite softboxes. But good cameras are very close in price on either side of the border. Does Kraft Dinner exist in the USA? BAK |
Aleve is a great pain reliver that is RX in Canada.
I love Mentadent toothpaste. It's pricey even in the US but I love the taste. For the chocolate lovers, the York Peppermint "Swoops" can't be beat. Yum, yum! I was just across to Niagara Falls, NY and brought back some Betty Crocker cornmeal muffin mix. Jiffy is better? Don't seem to get any cornmeal muffin mix here so I went with the brand I knew. I'll try Jiffy next time. Oh, I just about forgot, there's a garlic and parsley mix made by Badhia that's great. It will be in the spice aisle. Have a great trip to Florida! |
Pepperidge Farm 'Verona' cookies!

In case anyone is wondering what we bring home to the U.S. from Canada, it's Cadbury's burnt almond chocolate. We can't get it in the states and I buy the bars by the dozens when I visit. Yum!

Rice Chex, sometimes.

We use Zicam and it does work. Our physician did tell us to use the mouth spray and not the nasal for the above reasons.

My son brings Fruity Pebbles back with him... and, like another poster mentioned... Mentadent (a toothpaste). He also makes most of his electronics purchases in the states. Last time he upgraded his computer, he checked prices in Canada and the US and found the US prices to be much more favorable. The US also had a much wider selection.
He's learned a lot while away to college in Canada... like international shipping hassles and phone rates as well as all the college-learning he does. - Sharon |
When I go to the States, I bring home clothing for "petites" especially pants and coats. Here in Canada, they don't have the selection that you can find in the states, anything labelled petite here will cost an arm and a leg. Which I will never understand because you use less material. As for the choice of styles here; forget it if you're under 70 years of age.

I buy Orville Redenbacher 94% fat free popcorn, Pearson's Salted Peanut Rolls and Krispy Kreme donuts.
I was told we could not bring Aleve over the border. |
On an opposite note................
When I was a kid, we used to drive to Ft. Erie to wander thru their grocery store to get things we couldn't get in Buffalo. Especially different flavors of Jello! Black rasberry was one of the flavors you couldn't get in the states. There were also some lemon and lime pie fillings we couldn't get here. It was no big deal, because at the time you could drive from the west side of Buffalo over the Peace Bridge to Ft. Erie in about 10 minutes! |
When I was younger, I always asked for American Corn Pops to be brought back... they are different from the Canadian ones- They are shaped more like real corn, have a smooth texture and are not as sweet as the Canadian ones.
When my parents go down to their condo now, my dad brings down large flake rolled oats which he hasn't been able to find there. My mother brings back Cabot Seriously Sharp cheddar cheese. |
I don't know about the Pearsons salted peanut rolls but I buy the Orville Smart Pop here and have for years and Krispy Creme opened here about a year ago. Another purchase in the U.S. I get when I drive there is the Bush Beans- they're very good and there's all different kinds.

When we go to Canada, we stop at Fortinos. We buy chocolate marshmallow
cookies with raspberry filling, humpty dumpty potatoe chips, ED SMITH jelly. |
Melatonin (for jet lag); travel size Aquafresh toothpaste (I can't always find it in Canada); half of the stock at Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft (why won't they open in Canada?!); Victoria's Secret undies (I know they deliver to Canada but there are shipping, Canadian duty and Canadian tax charges; and even when I bring back more than my duty-free limit, the agents often wave me through without charge); beach reading in Spanish (el Diario de Bridget Jones).
