What are you favorite new Toronto Restaurants?

Hi Fodorites,

There's such a vibrant dining scene in this city and I'd love to here about your favorite new restaurants (opened in the last year or so). I'm looking at our Toronto guide here and I want to make sure all the worthwhile new places are on our writers' radars.

Thanks in advance!

By Googling Toronto Life, I got the following link, the runners up, but I think you have to buy the magazine to get the entire list - the Restaurant issue is on newstands now but I guess that doesn't help you.

I'm interested in this question too. My SO's birthday is coming up soon and I'd like to take him somewhere new (not necessarily a new restaurant but new to us). We often go to Scarmouche Pasta Bar or Le Paradis for these sorts of occasions but something a little more upscale would be good too. I'd also consider an old favourite that we haven't been to for a while.

Has anyone tried Mildred's Kitchen yet (that's the new Mildred Pierce)?

We used to go to Barberians and liked it very much. Is it still good?

Same with North 44, although that's so close to home it hardly feels like going out.

Any other suggestions?

The great thing about Toronto is that it is multicultural and that reflects the restaurant scene. If you want hip, go downtown. If you want Italian go to College/Bathurst street. Indian ?Gerard St. in the East end.

Any good guide will explain the restarant areas, I love the Hy Steak house. have a great trip.

SallyCanuck - I love Toronto life, both online and in print.

goddesstogo - Thanks for the specific restaurant mentions.

SaraJane - I agree, the neighborhoods do help in making decisions. And the many ethnic options are great as they're often well-priced.
