Good question. I always think that there are no really good restaurants in Victoria, and I'm not sure what would fit the bill for funky.

I hear Camilles and the Blue Crab are good.
Hugo's Grill has different decor.
Swans is sort of funky I guess.
Il Terrazzo but it could be too noisy.
The Latch in Sidney - I haven't been there in a long time but it used to be nice.

Is this for lunch or supper?
Not the best restaurant, but very good value is Kiplings in the basement of the Empress Hotel. They serve an all inclusive buffet that is really quite good. Then go upstairs, stroll through the lobby and have a drink in the Bengal Lounge

We really enjoyed Herald Street Cafe. Excellent food and a killer raspberry lemon drop martini!

Paggliacci's...small and crowded but with great food, large portions, yummy hot bread served throughout the meal and entertainment in the evenings... they were suggested on this site last year; we'd definitely go back!
