Western Canada: May/June or September?

Hi!
We're now considering the idea of visiting Western part of Canada this year.
We would fly in Vancouver.
From there, the 3weeks-trip would probably be something like that:
- Rocky Mountains (Revelstoke, Yoho, Banff, Jasper..) - Prince George - Prince Rupert - Ferry transfer to Port Hardy - Vancouver Island - Vancouver.
We're looking for nature, animals, panoramas, and we would like to do some little hiking, mountain biking and maybe kayaking.
In your opinion, which period would be better for this type of trip? End of May/Mid June or the beginning of September?
Every other suggestion will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
LGS

Usually try for September in the mountains
will be warmer than May/June still pretty chilly up high
better for hiking and wildlife.

Good luck!

September is often best for nature anywhere in Canada. The leaves are turning golden, some animals are in rut (careful of male Elks!), salmons are going up streams, biting insects are gone, there are fewer people and trails aren't as muddy as in the spring. Temperatures can be a little chilly, especially at night, but I find it more comfortable during the day for outdoor activities. You might get snow. Even Northen Lights are more common around the equinoxes. It should be good this year just a few months before the end of the world. :p See this site for forecasts: http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/NorthAmerica

I agree, September is usually drier on the west coast too. The days are shorter but other than that the weather is a bit more reliable.

and if you need just one more to convince you... September, absolutely. For all the reasons mentioned.
