Weekend in Ottawa
 

Hi all,

Going to spend the weekend in Ottawa from June 6-9th. Looking for a nice, clean, well-priced hotel in a safe area. $100-$150 per night is my price range, and hoping to get something that is close to some tourist attractions. Not sure exactly what attractions I plan to visit yet, but love to walk if possible (will have access to a car if necessary). Any suggestions for hotels or attractions would be appreciated!

Embassy Suites - have stayed there several times, walking distance to everything.

We stayed at Albert at Bay Suite Hotel in January. Travelled everywhere by bus or by foot. Very convenient for War Museum. Walkable distance from Museum of Civilization (Hull) and Byward Market. Right on main bus route. Very pleased with spacious suite and with hotel staff. And the price was right, too.

We stayed at the Quality Inn downtown and were happy with the accommodations. Good location-we walked everywhere.

I stayed at the Days Inn downtown. It was under $100 per night. I found it very easy to walk to ByWard Market and the "tourist area" from the hotel.

You'll have a great time and I consider Ottawa to be one of the most underrated destinations in North America. In addition to the suggestions you've already received, you might want to consider the Radisson on Parliament Hill. You can get it for $130/night for the period you're planning to be there and it looks like a very nice property with a great location. (I've used the Crowne Plaza several times nearby, but it's a bit higher rate.)

And Money Sense magazine just voted it the best city in which to live in Canada.

Visit Ottawa practically every year and have stayed at Albert at Bay more often than any others. It's downtown, a couple of blocks farther from the centre of things than some, but it's a great value if you don't care about a lot of amenities - condo style apartment units at hotel room prices. About 10 minute walk to Parliament buildings, 15 to 20 minute walk to Byward Market area (several blocks of restaurants, cafes, specialty shops, etc - very popular district). Have also walked to the National Gallery and Museum of Natural History from here. Short drive or cab ride to everywhere else. Other popular attractions include Museum of Civilization just across the river in Gatineau, and the Lac Leamy Casino also in Gatineau. If the weather is nice, a drive up into Gatineau Park in the Gatineau Hills across the river can be pleasant - some nice lookouts, walking trails, and could include a stop at Wakefield Quebec, quaint little town.
