Weekend in Montreal
My wife and I will be going to Montreal for a weekend in late Oct - mid Nov., flying from Boston - looking for recommendations for hotels in the city < $200 per night, walking distance to some great restaurants.
Also, any advice for getting the best airfare from Boston would be appreciated.

We will be there the last weekend in Oct. from NYC. We were flying, now decided to drive.(airfare from Newark-Montreal was $216 each rt)
The hotels we liked in past stays are
The Omni-big, luxurious, get a room with a view of Mont Royal. May be over $200 a night though.
We are staying at the Le Germain for the second time.
Luxurious, new, boutique hotel. Excellent service, luxurious rooms, nothing bad to say about this place, although it may also be more than $200 a night. Our King room is $255 CAD.But they have different rooms.
Wherever you stay-try to stay in the rue Sherbrook area, that is within walking distance to most of the best shopping, restaurants, museums, cinemas. Although you must go to the Old Port area and shop and walk around, eat at Auberge Bonapart.
We also highly recommend Cafe Ferreire, on rue Peel, Portugese Seafood, great place, make reservations well in advance.
Toque is great, expensive if you want a 4* kind ofnight out.
There are a lot of good recos on these boards for places in Montreal.
Have a great time, it is a great city.

Steve, I made the same trip from Boston over Labor Day weekend. I stayed at the Crowne Plaza at the corner of Rue Sherbrooke and Rue Berri, which is right next to a metro stop and across the street from a bus stop. I thought the location was perfect, and it's only one block from St. Denis where there are many great restaurants. I paid $67 USD per night via Priceline, and the rack rate was closer to $210 USD.

For restaurants try Cafe Cherrier at the corner of St. Denis and Rue Cherrier, Lombardie's (an excellent Italian restaurant) at the corner of St. Denis and Rue Duluth. There's also an excellent jazz club called Sofa on Rue Rachael which is off of St. Denis.

For breakfast, try Chez Cora which is on St. Laurent, just off of Rue Sherbrooke -- about 10 blocks from the Crowne Plaza, walking down the hill.

Don't know if you want to try Priceline to bid for a hotel, but check out www.biddingfortravel.com and you'll be able to see how inexpensively decent hotels are going for through Priceline. If you haven't bid via Priceline before, Sheryl, the administrator, at Bidding for Travel is very helpful after you have read the rules.

I recommend you book though Travelocity, where alot of the hotels are significantly discounted from the rack rate. I just booked a hotel for US$110/night where calling the hotel directly I got a quote of US$280/night.
|
What if you call the hotel directly? Won't you get the same deals? Or are those blocks of rooms that are cheap anyway?
|
I would try the Hotel Le-St. James, you might be able to get a room for around $200 because it's off-season,. gorgeous super luxury - member of Leading Hotel of the World, wish we'd stayed there instead of Hotel St. Paul (which was frightfully trendy)
