Weather in Montreal

Hi - Our time in Quebec City was nice -although we traveled up throughthick smmoke on Sunday. The B&B in Quebec City, the Historic JamesThompson was just great like others have said. We loved the old city. It was just fantastic. We are now in Montrel and wishing the sun would shine! We are planning on sun tomorrow and trying to pack in everything we want to do outside. Then on the rainy Sat. we will go to some museums. Any ideasfor the rainy day? The Hotel l'Argoat is also very, very ice. We are happy with both of our choices. What is this about an underground city? I am a little confused - it is just shopping? Thank you - Patti

Hi yellowrose477

Welcome to Montreal. Glad you enjoyed Quebec. Underground city is really an underground shopping mall that connects downtown buildings; nothing I would go out of my way to see. Rainy day (and don't believe anything these weather forecasters tell you) activities: Biosphere on Ile Sainte-Helene is nice (metro: Jean Drapeau), Old Montreal has enough indoors that it wouldn't be bad on a rainy day. Plan a supper at a nice restaurant if it's raining.

Best wishes, Daniel

Thanks Daniel - we walked in Park LaFontaine this evening in the light mist. A very nice park. We went and had smoked meat sandwiches today at Schwartz deli and had bagels at Fairmont this morning. We went to Jean Talon market and got fresh strawberries and peaches and nuts and bread and cheese and ate in our room this evening. We saw Notre Dame last evening and walkeddown to the river front and saw the Cirque de soleil tents. We are thinking about going to Parc Mt Royal tomorrow in the nice weather. Just took a nice long bath in the jacuzzi tub here at the hotel - ahhh- so a nice day.

I also like the Biosphere, built inside the old Expo geodesic dome by Buckminster Fuller. If you get a break in the weather, the views from the top are good. Another favorite museum is the Pointe-à-Callière archeological museum in old Montreal.

Underground city is basically just shopping and a way to avoid winter weather.

hi yellowrose477

Check out Parc Lafontaine AGAIN if the weather's nice. It's a different world at such a time: you'll see. There's even a possibility I would be among the crowd somewhere. Mount Royal Park is a good idea too. If you want exercise, get a Bixi and go up it that way! Botanical Gardens I hear are free after 6pm until closing (9pm), so not a bad idea if the weather's nice.

I just ate some strawberries from local fruit market Valmont; have almost that nice in-season taste.

Best wishes again, Daniel

The strawberries we got were very tasty! Much better than we get early in the season at home in WI. Our hotel is very close to Parc Lafontaine, so I am sure we will be there again. Hope to see you there

We just got back from 4 days in Montreal on Sunday - great as usual! Went to Cirque du Soleil (amazing), did lots of biking, ate at Jardin de Panos (our favorite), Spaggios on Duluth (fabulous), and Tai Nature in the old city (very good) - all 3 are byob. Rainy day ideas - Museum of Fine Arts, Redpath Museum, Biodome, Historic site Maison St. Gabriel (very out of the way, but interesting).

Yesterday was beautiful wasn't it? Weenjoyed being outside all day. We have not been able to bike as hubby's leg ishurting and I hurt my achilles! We are getting old. Wewent out to the island as we were going to go to the fort - but it is closed for renovations. Hiked around in Mont Royal. Did the bagel test - I vote for St. V's bagels. YUMM!! Today we are going to the archeology museum and whatever else catches our fancy down by t he waterfront. I wanted to go to Citque du Soleil but my hubby and son looked at me like I was crazy!

zootsi--Maison St. Gabriel is on my list of places to go when we head to Montreal sometime this summer for a long weekend. Glad to hear your positive report

yellowrose--it is probably too late for you but it just occurred to me you are staying quite close to another good small museum

Yellowrose, i don't know if tickets are available, but Cirque du Soleiel is unbelievable. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's a mind blowing experience.

Hi - We are having another good day in Montreal in spite of the rain. We are going to go to the IMAX in a little while as my son want to see the one on the Hubel telescope. Then off to our last night for supper. We went by Schwartz's for a second helping of the smoked meat, the it was raining and the line was too long so we ended up eating noodles at a Chinese retaurant close by. It was good too. More later.

Back home already. Had a great time in Quebec City and Montreal. Last night we saw the IMax Hubel telescope movie. Makes you wonder about our little planet. We ate at Les Trois Brasseurs by the waterfront and ate flamms. They were certainly very good. In fact every meal we ate was excellent. We especially liked the smoked meat sandwiches at Schwartz's. As I get my notes together I will post a little trip report. Thanks again for all the help. It was appreciated. Isn't it sad to come home and have to return to work!!
