We just returned from the Canadian Rockies last week. We stayed 3 nights at Elli's B&B in Canmore --fantastic! Lovely rooms with their own sitting areas, beautiful deck and absolutely wonderful gourmet breakfasts (with 5-6 choices)! Elli and Lou make you feel right at home. Canmore is less crowded and commercial than Banff and is very convenient to all the sites.

I just returned from a trip through the BC Kootenays. In Golden, we stayed one night at Alpine Meadows Lodge (www.alpinemeadowslodge.com). It is about a 10 min. drive from town on the way up to the Kicking Horse Resort, which for me was a good thing as Golden itself can be somewhat noisy with truck traffic and trains which go through the edge of town. The lodge is in a beautiful setting above the town overlooking the Columbia River and Wetlands (make sure to request a room on that side). There are lots of areas thoughout this unique lodge to relax, both in and outside. The rooms were comfortable, all with their own ensuites, and a decent breakfast (two choices of hot entrees plus the usual cold cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt etc) is served in a lovely breakfast room by the two very informative and friendly hosts. A couple of suggestions for dinner; the restaurant at the top of Kicking Horse Resort, billed as the highest elevation restaurant in Canada (excellent food, service, presentation and breathtaking views, make sure to leave time for a hike along one of the many trails around the restauarant) and Kicking Horse Grill in the townsite itself (again, excellent food, very friendly service, gorgeous presentation of top-quality fresh food).

In Vancouver, we enjoyed staying at a wonderfully restored b&b in the Kitsilano neighborhood called the Camelot Inn (camelotinnvancouver.com). Great location, near walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Wonderful gourmet breakfasts and good dining recommendations from the hostess. (although she's dissapointed when you don't eat enough for breakfast!)

Have a look at www.cherubinn.com - stayed there a few years ago in Vancouver and loved it!
