Waterton Park ,,,accommodations
 

I would like some personal recommendations in the Waterton area. I know about the Kilmory Lodge, and the Prince of Wales...
Has anyone stayed at the Bayshore Inn, motel type accommodations.? This is only for one or two nights.!
Anyone have a favorite restaurant with GOOD food.?...not necessarily "elite"!

Hi. We were just in Waterton in July. Stayed at the Waterton Glacier Suites (www.watertonsuites.com). We had a loft suite which was very large and accomodating. Wasn't impressed from an outside view of the Bayshore Inn, which is actually the Suites sister property. The Bayshore has waterfront dining (the only one in Waterton), and the restaurant also seemed a little dark and dingy, to me. We had a fabulous meal just a block over from the Waterton Suites. I want to say it was at the Lamplighter Restaurant, but not 100% positive about the name and tried doing a search to find it, but food and service were excellent. It was connected to a hotel on the corner of the street before going into town. There are a few restaurants in town as well.

Found it!! It's the Lamp Post dining room in the Kilmorey Lodge.

If you go to the Kilmorey for dinner, call now for a reservation. It is a small dining room, and usually very crowded.

Off topic a bit mari5 but I was just reading in our local newspaper that this has been a poor year for many of the species of wild berries in the Waterton area. The result of this is that black bears are coming in contact with more populated areas at the present time because they are trying to bulk up for the winter months.

Not being an alarmist here, just letting you know to be bear aware while you are visiting. Have a great trip.

Just to comment on the last two threads:

1) We got a reservation at the restaurant (Lamp Post) at Kilmorey the night before and we ate on a Friday night (7/23). We also walked up the evening before just checking out restaurants and could've gotten in with a short wait. Others walked up the same night we were eating on the patio and were asked to wait in the bar and were seated a short time thereafter. However, the people at the restaurant DO emphasize reservations....

2) We spent two nights in Waterton and a total week in the surrounding area (GNP) and the only wildlife we saw were mountain goats on the road to Cameron Lake in Waterton and doe with their fawn just about everywhere else including walking about in Waterton. However, at that time the berries were not out, so maybe you will have a bear sighting.

We stayed in the Bayshore Inn last year and really loved it. We also ate at the restaurant there and found the breakfast buffet to be excellent, the dinner so so. If you book a room there, get a waterfront view and you'll be able to watch deer walking right under your balcony.
