Watching NFL Games in Montreal

We will be in Montreal and would like to watch the Green Bay Packers Vs. Minnesota Vikings game on Sunday, Oct. 21. In the States, NFL's Central Division games are mostly on FOX. Can any one recommend a "Packer" bar or a good sports bar that may carry the game? And please don't pick on me that I have to watch sports while on vacation - it is not me, it is my husband - well, okay, I guess I wouldn't mind seeing the Packers stomp on the Vikings. Ha ha. Thanks for your help!

Teri - last time I checked, there was no NFL season ticket available for Canada on the Dish. This limits viewers on which games are on, mostly based on what the US border cities are showing. You may luck out and see your game but it's more likely that the bars will be showing the national sport of Canada....Curling... Then you will be able to see Regina stomp on Saskatchewan. Bring your pom-poms and have hubby bring his stones...

While in Montreal enjoy the city and culture. I suggest you go to the Peel Pub, drink a couple of Molson Exports and read about the football game in the newspaper on Monday. However, if you insist, you may find the game on FOX (broadcast from Burlington, VT). Check out the website: www.fox44.net

Hi

A "Green Bay Packer" supporting bar in Montreal? I would faint with shock if there is such a thing. Prepare yourself...in Montreal, you have left American football territory altogether. Montreal does have a CFL team, the Alouettes, which has a certain following...BUT living in Montreal for 5 years, I'll tell you it was RARE that I would meet people who gave 10 pennies about either the CFL or NFL.

That said, there is a sports bar, Champs on Boulevard Saint Laurent (near Duluth). I saw the US Open Tennis final there in 1995...Pete Sampras vs. somebody; two TV sets were on the final; the rest (16 or so) were on Grand Prix with everyone cheering Jacques Villeneuve who was racing the same day. Champs had a pretty decent beer selection if I remember. I'd check if I were you if there's an NHL game on that day (Montreal Canadiens), as that is what most people will want to watch. I was one of 5 people watching the US Open Final; I suspect you will be two of two watching the Packers-Vikings game.

Otherwise, your only hope I would say is if there's an extensive cable selection at your hotel. I wish you the best of luck, but I would prepare just in case for the possibility that you will not be able to see the game (the Vermont stations may be showing Patriots or NYC games).

I wish you the best of times in Montreal. (Please try to enjoy the distinct local culture too ;)) DAN

To Garyt & Dan (as always) thank you for the information, you have been very helpful. We will get to enjoy the NHL game while we are there, we have tickets already. I am also looking forward to visiting the museums, cathedrals and Quebec City. We have been fortunate to have visited many countries already, my favorite thus far is Paris, France. I am excited to visit your beautiful city. And I won't be shocked that another country isn't obsessed about football like the U.S., that is certainly the case in Toronto and London, where soccer rules. I like to cheer for my friend on the Packer team who is a receiver. If we miss the game, we will definitely hear about the game when we return back to Wisconsin. Thanks again.

Thank k:

The Fox station is running the game that week, I checked on the web site. So perhaps we can catch part of the game Sunday night while enjoying a casual dinner at a pub and a Molson!
