hello can someone advise me of a)the best way by public transport to visit niagara falls from toronto and b) the best bars (canadian)not irish/scottish or even worse english and c) the best place for steaks many thanks regards

hi dalkeith, having just returned from toronto- i think you take the train to niagara from union station ( cost $62.06) per adult and half this for a child. sorry can't advise on your other question as an irish woman i couldn't possibly advise to miss the irish bars!!!!

There are more buses (coach in British terms) from the downtown Toronto bus station to Niagara Falls than there are trains.

Once in Niagara Falls, there are shuttle buses to most of the places tourists want to see.

STEAKS:
I think of this group as being all similar in quality and price. High.
Barberian's, on Elm Street and CArmen's Club, on Alexander Street, are the two classic 60's steakhouses still in business in downtown Toronto, and both are great.

Ruth's Chris, in the downtown Hilton Hotel at Richmond and University is a branch of the US-based chain, and is excellent.

Hy's is a Canadian semi-chain (there are only a few) in the Richmond-Adelaide Center on Richmond, between Bay and University. Hy's has been in Toronto since at least 1970.

There's a Morton's of Chicago branch in the Park Hyatt, but I have not heard really good reviews, and I have heard, but months ago, not-so-positive reviews.

These are the expensive, top of the line, steak houses.

A notch down, but very nice, good food, good service, and nice decor, is Le Bifteque. there's one near the airport, but the downtown Le Bifteque is in the Sheraton Center hotel, and there's an entrance from Richmond Street, too.

Lots of other restaurants sell steaks, too, but the ones above are the best of the downtown steakhouses where the meat is the star fo the meal.

Harder to define a Canadian bar. Main floor of the Four Seasons Hotel; rooftop bar at the park Hyatt has a decades-long reputation as being a favorite of authors and publishers; Montana, Friscos, Alice Fazooli's on or near John and Adelaide. Vinnie's at Adelaide and Duncan for video games and a young crowd. C'est What? on Front Street at Church. There are a lot of bars in Toronto.

The bar in the Drake Hotel (Queen St. W) is the current Toronto hot spot to see and be seen if that is the kind of place you are looking for.

Canadian Bar? You could try Wayne Gretzky's if you are interested in Sports Bars.
