Victoria to Vancouver: Air or Water??

Hi there: I am confused as to whether it would be better to take the seaplane or the ferry to downtown Vancouver? Anyone with advice??

It's simply a matter of time and money. Return Airfare is about $150 and it takes you from Vancouver harbour to Victoria Harbour in just over a half hour. The flight is reasonably comfortable and the views on a clear day are wonderful because the planes fly relatively low to avoid Jet traffic.

The ferries can be taken either with you own car, (about $35 each way plus about $7 per extra passenger) or by PCL bus which leaves downtown Vancouver and drops you off behind the Empress Hotel in Downtown Victoria. I don't recall what the bus fare is but it's significantly less than for a car and driver but if there's more than two of you it is probably cheaper to take your car but add about one hour minimum wait time over the roughly 3 hour bus and ferry trip. The ferry ride is very pleasant and the scenery is terrific.

I hope this is what you needed to know.

I was on the seaplane from Vic to Van less than 24 hrs ago. Indescribably beautiful--35 minutes in a single-engined turbo Otter. It's actually $Cdn 99. plus tax each way. We took HarbourAir but there's another right beside it that I'm sure is just as good. Ferry trip is fine, too. Personally, I'd rather look at the islands from above. Depends on whether you need your car or not. You're stricted to 25 lbs luggage, but they'll send excess on the next plane (or the one previous to your flight for that matter) free.

And depending on the wind, you may get a grand-slam tour of Vancouver and environs before you land. I'd go for it.

Unless a car is needed, I'd take the float plane any day.

Hi Island Girl:

Last may I took the bus (<$40 return including the boat) and saw a number of dolphins & a few whales along the way, to go along with some amazing scenery.
