Victoria restaurants
We'll be in Victoria for a week in July and would like recommendations for good-value restaurants. Doesn't have to be cheap, necessarily, just good value for the $. We eat anything.

Thanks!

Angie

I shouldn't even attempt to answer this since I am an unadventurous eater, but people seem to like Il Terrazzo downtown on Johnson and its sister establishment Cecconi's Trattoria out of town near Hillside Mall. Some also like the Macaroni Grill out of town near Mayfair Mall. You can get a reasonably priced meal or afternoon tea at the Ramada Huntingdon and adjoining Gatsby beside the inner harbour. For quick food consider lasagna at Zambri's (fresh, cheap, but they close early) a few block out of town on Yates by London Drugs, lunch at Cilantros on Douglas across from The Bay, muffins in the next block at Castellos, dessert in the old-time Dutch Bakery, 700 block Fort or open-all-night QV's Bakery, corner of Fisgard and Gov't. Other possibilities: Mings, Eugene's, Herald St. Cafe or the restaurants listed here in the rants and raves section.

Current fav Chinese is 'The Noodle House' in 900 block of Fort. That is for the food not the atmosphere. Current fav pub-grub 'Christie's Carriage House'. Need to bus or drive as is 2K from downtown.

April mentions Herald Street - I second that. I've eaten there a couple of times while in Victoria and it's been great both times.

The Blethering Place in Oak Bay (part of Victoria). Great food, good prices and real English fare.

We ate a good Greek restaurant, I can't remember what it's called but it's a couple of doors down from the hotel Chateau Victoria. They had a belly dancer for entertainment which we thought was a hoot! The food was good and not too expensive.
|
That would be Millos on Burdett with the belly dancer. I can't believe anybody would rave over the Blethering place cuisine, but yes it is as English as it gets. Not a high tea sort of thing but real scones and jam with white linen tablecloths. Servers in 'matronly' outfits. Could be worth a hoot.
