Victoria - B & B's
 

Anyone stay in a nice B & B in Victoria that they care to recommend? We won't have a car.

I would highly recommend Spinnakers. You can see a review on this site. Abigail's is significantly more expensive but very nice. They are both walking distance from the harbour/downtown although Spinnakers is quite a hike. I'm sure there is bus service however. I haven't been to any others but there are several in all price ranges...

We were in Victoria in spring 2001 and stayed at Marketa's B&B. At the time it was still being renovated, but even then was quite nice. I looked at the website a while back and it seems as if it may be completed now. It was reasonably priced, somewhere between $60-80 a night. It was a short walk from the harbour.

I have no experience to offer but here are some I would look into, based on looks and location only:

Robert Porter House - newly renovated and almost across the street from Beacon Hill Park, it has the same owner as the ever-improving Shamrock Suites next door.
Rosewood Inn - another handy location near Beacon Hill Park and Victoria's Inner Harbour. It didn't always get good reviews as Holland House but perhaps new management came with the name change?
Both of the above are in what I think of as 'leafy-green' neighbourhoods.
The Haterleigh Heritage Inn - fairly close to downtown and the harbour, probably pricey but attractive on the outside.
Pacific Sunset B&B is also expensive. It is not in the most beautiful of areas and is a fair hike from town, but might be interesting if you wanted to walk the breakwater and look at the cruise ships, if any, that dock almost across the street.

Beaconsfield or Abigails are likely safe bets.

For something less grand, and perhaps cheaper, The Victorian B&B is a charming little house on a quiet-looking street close to the main sights.

If you didn't mind taking a bus into town, consider also the Rockland area. It is not too far away and has its own attractions such as the Government House gardens and Craigdarroch Castle. There are many stately B&Bs in this beautiful neighbourhood including Dreemskerry and the Amethyst Inn.
