My husband wishes to buy a gift certificate for a four/five star restaurant in Vancouver. I am also looking over sites like Zagat's but was hoping to hear of suggestions you have tried and recommend.

Open to just about anything within the "not way out there" box. It will be a gift so our initial plans were French, seafood, steak to play it safe-ish.

Hawskworth is good. Also look at Yew, Blue Water Cafe, Le Crocodile, Cioppino's, and Bishop's, for starters. Vancouver Magazine also has a great overview of Vancouver's top restaurants:
