Vancouver to New Orleans options, No Flying?

I don't know if anyone can help me. I live in New Orleans and my sister in law and my brother want to come out here, but my brother is terrified of flying.
Are there other options besides flying or driving?
I don't know if there are any cruises that come out here from Vancouver or trains?
I've tried looking, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

AMTRAK
Vancouver to Seattle
Seattle to Los Angeles
LA to New Orleans

Both intermediate stops will require overnight stays due to train scheduling.

With Amtrak you also can go Vancouver - Seattle - Chicago - New Orleans. I don't know how the length of that journey would compare with the one via Los Angeles. Perhaps they could go via LA in one direction and via Chicago in the other direction. Then they would see different scenery on the two trips.

Or, train from Vancouver to Toronto on Viarail, and then Amtrak to New York and south from there.

It's a long, ong way by ship, all the way down the coast of the USA and Mexico to the Panama Canal.

Unlikely that there's a single ship doing this whole route, but you could likely do it in chunks; Vancouver to LA, probably, and LA to Miami, and then probably train to New Orleans.

Of the train routes, I would pick the Seattle-Chicago, Chicago-New Orleans path as they evade the notoriously 10-hours late LA-New Orleans route. If a sleeper is affordable for him for both legs, I'd try to go with that, as both trains cover quite a long distance.

Hope he enjoys! I've really enjoyed cross-country train travel myself (despite delays).

I would agree with Dan. Would also note that Seattle - Chicago and Chicago - New Orleans both operate daily while LA - New Orleans is 3 times a week, so scheduling the former route is easier/more convenient. Would also agree that bedroom is definitely the way to go if it's within your budget. While looking at pricing, keep in mind that meals are included in price of bedroom (1st Class) - they're not in coach.

My uncle years ago did R/T Vancouver to Tampa by bus. I think it took 5 days!

We have done the Seattle-LA, LA-NOLA Amtrak trip and can confirm that it is slow and subject to problems...we got derailed in San Antonio. Never used the Chicago route, but I would guess that it is the better of the two options.

I am so sorry that it's taken me so long to reply to all your kind replies. In my old age, I had forgot where I posted this to and thought I had checked for replies to be sent to my email. I just tripped over it again. I am forwarding this to my sister-in-law and suggested she get some help here.
Thank you kindly!!
