Vancouver to Banff inc Jasper &a lake louise

Hello.
We are travelling from the uk and its our first time in Canada
We arrive lunchtime 2nd Sept in Vancouver and leave out of Toronto on 21st Sept

We have provisionally booked Vancouver 2-8th
Drive to Jasper on 8th
Jasper 8-12
Drive to Banff on 12 at some point
Banff 12-16
Need to drive to Calgary airport on 16th & fly to Quebec
Quebec 16-19th
Then fly to Toronto on 19th to depart late on 21st

We realise we are probably trying to squeeze too much in but want to see as much as we can

Flights cannot be changed but time in each place can, So what I am asking is are we doing the best we can and if not, where should we spend longer in or less time.

We like to walk but not serious trekking. Love wandering around cities but it's Canada and really need to see the outdoors, lakes, mountains etc
Happy to kayak, hire bikes etc

Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Mike

Do you have lodging booked in Jasper and Banff? If not, do that right away, and make your plans around what you can get. You are arriving on a holiday weekend as well. There are a lot of threads on this forum that will give you a lot of information.

Agreed about accommodation - you need to book your Jasper and Banff accommodation ASAP. At this point, it could be a challenge to find a place to stay, especially if you are on a budget.

A couple of comments.

Generally we would suggest at least two days to drive from Vancouver to the Rockies. It's 10-11 hours of flat out driving, not counting delays due to construction, possibly forest fires, slow traffic etc.

Since it's strongly suggested to have two shots to drive the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Lake Louise (one of the most scenic drives in the world), best advice is to drive to Banff/Canmore/Lake Louise, then to Jasper, then back to Banff/Lake Louise/Canmore.

I think 6 days in Vancouver may be a bit excessive. I'd take a day from there to give yourself a night on the way to the Rockies. Try to find a place in Salmon Arm or Revelstoke. Then do a night in Banff or Canmore (the latter a good option if you can't find anything suitable in Banff). Then Jasper, then back to Banff/Canmore.

Thanks for the advice. We have accommodation booked in Jasper and in Canmore. We had provisionally booked a 2 night stay in Whistler. Travelling from Vancouver then Whistler onto Jasper.
We have looked at your advice and now spending 1 less day in Vancouver, Whistler now a day trip, (Greyhound bus) and then looking to book somewhere between Vancouver and Jasper. If splitting this journey, time less important, so could anyone recommend a route.
More than likely stopping night in Revelstoke.
Reallly appreciate advice, so looking forwRd to visiting Canada
Found some great trails, kayaking etc.
Need to find somewhere for girlfriend to go horse riding either in Jasper/lake Louise or Banff
1/2 day ideally... I can then possibly get a game of golf in.

Thanks again

Mike

If you want to golf, I would look at prices and book now. Whether you can find a place depends on your budget and whether tee times are still available. Best bets are likely mid-week times.

Jasper and Banff each only have the one golf course - at the Fairmont hotels. Which means popular and expensive. There are a couple in the Canmore area (think the one in K-Country is still shut).

There tend to be a lot more golfing options nearer to Calgary or in southern BC (Radium area, for instance).

There are trail rides available in Lake Louise, Banff, Jasper and Kananaskis Country. All will be the typical nose to tail type rides -- more about seeing the scenery than doing any interesting riding. Depending on your budget, I'd be inclined to go for one at Lake Louise. Beautiful scenery, especially at Po6G. There are often shorter rides to Lake Agnes, but note that that ride would be 95% in the trees and you have to walk the last 5-10 minutes to the lake/teahouse because it involves several flights of stairs. However, you likely won't find any golfing closer than Canmore.
