Vancouver or Victoria for Canada Day?

Hi,
I'm planning a trip to BC at the end of June. Which city puts on the best show?

I'm guessing probably not Victoria but I've never been to Vancouver on Canada Day.

Vancouver doesn't really have any outstanding Canada Day celebrations. I don't know if Victoria does either.

There is, however, Steveston's Salmon Festival which is BC's biggest Canada Day celebration. Steveston's located about 45 minutes south of Vancouver and has a small-town country fair atmopshere with a parade, carnival, ethnic food fair, garden show, trade show, kids rides, craft fair, Japanese cultural shows (bonsai, flower arranging, paper, dolls, martial arts), etc. It's been going strong for over 70 years now.

It's all free and gives you more to do than anything in Vancouver would offer on that day: www.stevestonsalmonfest.ca/

Victoria usually has a fireworks display in the inner harbour area on Canada Day.

This year there is a big party in Vancouver in Stanley Park at Deadman's Island. Live rock music all day long. Looks pretty cool, you can check it out at www.deadmansisland.com.

Both cities will have decent shows, i personally enjoy Victoria because of its cleanliness and the fact that it has less "big city" problems, but both have beautiful harbours that work well with the fireworks, also Victoria is the capital, dunno if that has any impact on funding or not.
