Vancouver Main Street Skytrain Station

I will be in Vancouver for one day and arriving via Amtrak. I plan to use public transit to get around for the day, so I'm going to purchase a Day Pass at the Main Street Skytrain station. I used this station the first time I ever went to Vancouver, but that was 4 years ago and I don't remember it very well.

Translink's website says that there is an elevator at every ST station except Granville, but I recall walking up a very long flight of stairs at Main Street. Was there an elevator and I missed it, or is it a new addition?

It's on the other side of the street from the stair side if I recall.

The elevator has been there as long as I can remember. You do have to cross Main Street and get it at the other side from the train station.

Thanks.

Good thing my suitcase has wheels.

I wish we had known there was an elevator. I distinctly remember walking up those stairs at Main Street Station with our bags, and down them the next day with a lot more than we started with. :)

I don't know about the elevator end, but we were met by several panhandlers near the ticket machine at the top of the stairs. Watch out for the guy acting like it's his job to help tourists use the ticket machine. He's after your change.

Same here. The reason that I took a taxi to my hotel last time I was in Vancouver was because I had no idea about the elevator and I didn't want to encounter those stairs again.

I've heard about Vancouver's aggressive panhandlers, though I've never encountered them myself. If I do, I suppose I'll do the same thing that I do with Seattle panhandlers which is a firm, polite "No.". If that doesn't work, my mother will be with me and she can be downright forbidding when she wants to be. :)
