Vancouver lodging?
 

Looking for a nice hotel or B&B in Vancouver with good central location.
So far, I'm considering the Metropolitan, Le Soleil, Sutton Place and Barclay House (B&B- not Barclay Hotel). These are all in my price range. ($350 per night with taxes).Can anyone recommend any of these or any others I should consider?

Le Soleil was okay - our room had a narrow layout, the carpets were wet and there was no view to speak of. The Wedgewood is nice, although in November our room was too cold.

But in Vancouver I'd rather have a view of the water and mountains, not rooftops. I've never stayed at the Bayshore, but have always wanted to. The Lord Stanley near Stanley Park is not central but has been fine for us.

The Wedgewood is a bit out of our price range. Since we won't have a car, the central location is kind of a must. Leaning towards Barclay House B&B or the Metropolitan Hotel, so if anyone knows of these, would appreciate your input.

I don't know the Barclay House so can't comment on that but of your hotel choices my favorite is the Sutton Place. The rooms are on the small side but the service is great and the location can't be beat, IMO.

If you ask for a room on a high floor with a north or west view, you should get at least a peak at the water/mountains.

Oh dear, I just looked at the Wedgewood website. Did they sell out?

I'm guessing that you plan to visit in the summertime.

Actually, we're going in early Sept.
Wedgewood wasn't sold out, but rooms are over $400.

We thought Le Soleil was fine. Neither the living room nor the bedroom were large but it was nice to have the two rooms. The decor was nice and the hotel was very clean. We don't use a lot of service but when we did need to ask questions or get help, service was prompt and friendly. I thought it was a nice touch that the front desk always had a big bowl of apples or bottles of water on it for guests.

Maybe the Sylvia Hotel? Don't expect much from the rooms - it's an old hotel, but you're right in the West End on English Bay. Or, the Westin along Coal Harbour.

If you've never been to Vancouver before, know that because the downtown core is relatively small, the locations don't get toooooooo far-flung from the various points of convenience.

If I were playing with your budget, instead of doing Priceline, which I love, I would make a reservation at either the Vancouver Renaissance Harbourside, the Westin, or any of those where I could pay extra for a high floor with a mountain-side view.

I scored the 'Renaissance' with Priceline once and got a great view at no extra cost, and I just loved the room and was in awe of the place.

Downtown Vancouver, for being mostly surrounded by water, is largely flat, and not difficult to get around in on foot. Furthermore, early Sept. should bring about the best weather you can hope to find.
