Vancouver Island ferries & customs
Just a curiosity (and time planning question). I remember when we took the Clipper from Victoria to Seattle in 2002 we had to show our passport (we are American) before boarding, then also go through customs when we got to Seattle.
How does this work with the Port Angeles ferry to Vancouver Island? Do you have to "clear customs" in Port Angeles before departing, then go through customs again in Canada? How about returning to the US? Are you cleared before departing Vancouver Island, then again upon returning to the US?
Thanks for any experiences.

Yes you are. Immigration before you board and customs after you disembark.
Also in a new twist, at least on the Victoria side, someone must remain with the vehicle while the other goes for coffee. Otherwise someone runs after you screaming. Guess how I know that.

Another laugh now, not then...Once got into a fight as a teenager with the Canadian Agriculture people..this was in the 1960s..I had made a rather large batch of oatmeal cookies as we were camping for 2 weeks as I love my cookies! and they would not let me keep them ..something about the oats...
