Vancouver in February
Leaving for Vancouver Feb 12th. Had planned to take the train to Banff for a day, but doesn't appear to operate in this month. Capilano suspension bridge also on our bucket list. Any suggestions for memorable things to do and not miss in our 1 week journey? Any advise on restaurants too?

you should probably repost this in British Columbia.
Stanley Park, Granville Island, Grouse Mountain are all must dos imo. Lots of amazing resteraunts in Vancouver, it just depends on what your preferences are. There are museums if that is your interest. If you re post in B.C. and narrow down your interests then we can give you more ideas. |
Don't know where you are coming from, but the Canadian (ViaRail) runs all year long. Jasper to Vancouver on the train is a beautiful trip. Add Gastown and Canada Place to live42day's list. There are 2 HI hostels in Vancouver. I have stayed in both and both are fine if you only want a place to sleep and maybe cook in their kitchen.
For a cheap meal anywhere in Canada, you can't beat Tim Horton's. There are many great restaurants on Granville Island. |
If you have kids with you, check out Vancouver Aquarium. They have a dolphin show at 1:00 pm (or noon) on Saturdays. The HI hostel on Burnaby is great, as tomfuller pointed out. Lots of wonderful restaurants, especially for ramen, sushi, and Korean barbeque. Check out Denman and Robson streets for restaurants, to a lesser degree Davie.

I agree with the other posters. Granville Island in particular is a must-see. We took a bus up to Whistler for the afternoon -- what a gorgeous drive.
There are so many great restaurants of all kinds. We particularly enjoyed Il Giardino on Hornby Street. As you might expect Asian food is very well represented. There is also a restaurant that mimics a First Nations long house which is worth visiting for the experience. Have fun! |
I am puzzled by this phrase, "planned to take the train to Banff for a day, but doesn't appear to operate in this month". You can't do a train trip to Banff as a day trip, to say the least.
Did you possibly mean that you wanted to do a train trip to Whistler? It's true the Rocky Mountaineer does not run in February, but Whistler can still be an enjoyable daytrip destination by bus (or rental car). You'll have plenty to see in Vancouver, though. |
