Vancouver hotel - Wedgewood or Metropolitan?
 

We are planning for a 3-night stay in Vancouver in July. After reading many posts here, I have narrowed down my choices to these two hotels. From the rates that I can find, Wedgewood is about USD$60 more per night. Is Wedgewood worth it?

I don't know where the Metropolitan is located, could not find a website to look at it; I only know the Wedgewood is very centrally located and has a very lovely bar/restaurant off the lobby and a high end restaurant on the premises; I've stayed there often and absolutely love it. The rooms are quaint and homey; some even have balconies.

Whenever this subject comes up, I start getting all dreamy-eyed about the Wedgewood. It's one of the nicest places I've ever stayed in, and I've done a lot of travelling. Don't know anything about the Metropolitan, unfortunately, but I'd vote for the Wedgewood anyway.

While the Metrtopolitan is a fine hotel, (it began life in 1986 as a five star Mandarin), it is not nearly as well thought of as the Wedgewood which is easily the best four diamond hotel in the city.

The differance at the Wedgewood is not so much the rooms or facilities, which are probably at least as good or better at the Met, but the intimate service and special attention that makes the differance between a botique hotel and a business hotel.

I used to stay at the Westin Bayshore, but gave the Wedgewood a try several months ago. It is now our favorite hotel. I have not stayed at the Met, but would highly recommend the Wedgewood.

We stayed at the Metropolitan last August and were rather disappointed. Some have balconies, but they're tiny, and what is called a soaker tub definitely doesn't match my idea of one! Plus, the rooms are very small and though the decor is tasteful it's not really inspired. On the plus side, service was goodand friendly (though breakfast at Diva, the restaurant, was the slowest I've ever experienced) and it's very close to the shopping areas.
