Vancouver Hotel/Georgian Court

I am trying to book four rooms in Vancouver on July 16. Everyone seems to be sold out or way way way over our budget ($100-150 US). I found this hotel was reasonably priced. Any comments or reviews on it? Any other suggestions? Any nice hotels near the airport? Would we be better off not to reserve and just take a chance on last minute availability?

The Georgian Court is a fairly nice three star hotel and while it is downtown it's location is not very central. It's directly accross from the BC Place Stadium which is mostly used for Trade Shows and Football and is on the edge of trendy Yaletown an upscale highrise condo area of really good restaurants and bars. It's about a five block walk to the heart of downtown so unless it's raining it should be an easy walk.

About the best thing about the hotel is the William Tell Swiss Restaurant which is among the top European restaurants in town. Their beef fondu is wonderful.

I don't think you'll be unhappy with it and you probably won't do much better if you wait till the last minute. Unless you want to go the priceline route in which case you're committed to taking the hotel they give you. But the rates are sometimes unbelievably low so maybe it's worth it.

There are a ton of nice hotels near the airport and since there is a surplus of hotel rooms you can get some great deals if you work on it.

GaryA, which one of the airport hotels do you recommend? I have already tried to book at the Fairmont without success. Thanks for the other information.

cmcfong, if you're interested in the Priceline route look at http://www.betterbidding.com (which will also give you Hotwire info, which is helpful for targeting your preferred hotel) and http://www.biddingfortravel.com .

In any event , if you're only there for one night, I would take a downtown location - certainly the Georgian Court instead of an airport hotel.

I was in Vancouver in 2002 We stayed at a small Hotel near Stanley Park The Buchan Hotel they have a web site .The hotel is inexpensive but centrally located 5mins from the park and near the Westin Ho. which has a double decker bus stop . A nice breakfast restaurant 3or 4 min. walk from the hotel I think it was a $20 cab ride from the airport.

Georgian Court is a nice hotel but as another mentioned, it is directly across from BC Place. It is THE BEST hotel if you are attending the Vancouver Indy as it is on the course.

My personal recommendation is Sutton Place, a block away from Hotel Vancouver and and is in the price range you have quoted, or was when I stayed.
