Vancouver Hotel - Downtown or Aiport?

We will arrive in Vancouver by cruise ship, have one day to sightsee (we've been there before), one overnight and an early flight out. I'm trying to decide if we are better off leaving our luggage somewhere (?), spending the day and then going to an airport hotel or taking a downtown hotel and going to the airoport in the morning. Any suggestions?

What time does your cruise ship arrive, and when does your plane leave?

There's not much to do around the airport, so if you're not pressed for time, then I'd recommend staying downtown.

Early morning taxi rides from downtown Vancouver to the airport are really quick, 15 to 20 minutes or so. We've done this several times with no problems at all.

I would prefer being in town with easy access to restaurants, shopping and the sights rather than staying out at the airport. The only good point of doing that would be being right there in the morning like at the Airport Fairmont, but like I said the taxi ride is fast.

our cruise ship gets in at 8am. We have a full day to sightsee, stroll, etc. We will only use the hotel for a few quick hours of sleep and then be off to the airport at about 6am. I didn't realize the taxi ride was so short, maybe we can leave at 6:15 or so.

I would recommend getting to the airport when you originally planned.

I was flying out of Vancouver to Phoenix a few years ago and the crowds and crowds of people trying to get through security. We made our flight...but if we had taken our time getting to the airport, etc., we would have been rushed for sure.

Have a lovely time!
