Vancouver Downtown Hotel- Pacific Palisades,
Has anyone stayed at this Kimpton Hotel lately? we generally like these but haven't been to the one in Vancouver. Good location?

what are you looking for? age-wise? if you're mid 30s or thereabouts, you'd enjoy it - trendy, right on the main shopping drag. I would have loved to stay at the Opus hotel myself, check that out it's in Yaletown in Vancouver. Are you just with a friend, hubby or partner, or with kids?

thanks Lori, yes it's my husband and myself (in our 30's) and like to be in the thick of it! We are meeting up with friends to go out for dinner etc so want a good central location.

It's pretty central, right in the heart of Robson Street. Lots of restaurants and chain retail stores, and anything else would be a 15-20 minute walk away (or a 2-5 minute cab ride). Think of Robson Street as an outdoor mall, but physically in the heart of the downtown peninsula.

Yaletown, as Lori25j mentioned, might also be of interest. They only really have the one hotel there, the Opus, but the scene is more high end and tends to attract an older (as in older than 25 years old) demographic. It's home to more of the lounge/boutique scene in the city.

And to clarify, Yaletown is just one district in downtown Vancouver. Downtown Vancouver is pretty small. If Robson Street bisects the downtown peninsula into north and south, then Yaletown would take up the south-eastern quadrant of the downtown peninsula.

I did check out the Opus, wow!!! looks amazing but a bit out of our budget for this trip. thanks all!

No problem! :)

While the Opus is probably the trendiest hotel in the city, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Pacific Palisades. It's one of my favourites. Friends of mine stayed there a few years ago, so I did get to experience the hotel from the perspective of a guest. Perhaps it's just the good memories of the parties, but I really enjoyed the hotel. :) As long as you don't mind the tropical citrus colours, it's a great place to be located in. If you can, try to stay in a suite on the higher floors facing south (south-west). The suites feel as if you're in an apartment more than a hotel room.

You will definitely enjoy Palisades. Maybe try Opus for a drink with your friends one night!!! We cabbed it one night and ate at Feenies and it was amazing, as was Cardero's (an easy walk from the Pacific Palisades).

Have a great time, we absolutely loved Vancouver!

very funny lori, we are eating at Feenies! it is close to Opus? if so we will definately head their for a cocktail

Feenie's is about a 10 minute drive from the Opus. It's not walking distance (well, it is if you don't mind walking for an hour!), but Yaletown has so many great restaurants and lounges, you should head there anyways just for a night of menu-browsing!
