Ah! we had dinner here, thanks to someone on this forum, and loved it-- will happily try their dim sum!

First I have to admit that I'm very snobby about dim sum because we have such wonderful Chinatowns in Toronto. That said, we had a pretty good meal at a place called, I believe, Floata. The best thing about it was that it was just a block away from the Chinese Gardens and the Scholar's Garden which really shouldn't be missed if you're going in the nice weather.

curiouser - I have recommended the Imperial on this forum to a lot of people and always had excellent comments. If you go to their website and click on the order online you can see all of their dim sum items.

Here are reviews of 79 dim sum restaurants around Vancouver. Most of them are not in Chinatown, but it gives you an idea of what's available and what others have reported about them:

Vancouver Magazine is famous for it's restaurant reviews.

Here's the Dim Sum section:

Thanks, everyone, for your replies.
I guess that the reason I post questions here is that I have the fantasy, warranted or not, that I am connecting with the inner circle, the elite, the mavens, and getting your one favourite top choice, not the info everyone can read in the newspaper. But it's certainly useful to read the newspaper too... :-)

If you want opinions from people who commonly eat dim sum, I'd actually suggest posting the questions on Chowhound.com under the "Western Canada" forum.

I've only been out for dim sum twice in the past year: Jade Dynasty and Park Lok - both in Chinatown. Both during lunch on Fridays with my colleagues. We were trying to scout out a decent dim sum restaurant.

I'm really not a dim sum expert, but that Dinehere.ca link I provided is not really a newspaper - it's customer reviews who have actually dined there and decided to write a review themselves on their experiences. If you're looking for first-hand experiences, that's where I generally go to get opinions.

Follow-up: we had dim sum at the Imperial and enjoyed it very much. The Imperial is such a convenient stopover from Highway 99! it's so easy to jump off the route from Whistler to Seattle. Thanks!

To return the favour: for you BC folk visiting in Seattle, try Monsoon in Capitol Hill for dim sum on the weekends (or dinner any night). It's not the traditional with carts, just a la carte with a limited menu, but truly delicious.
