Vancouver / Calgary / Banff in 9 days?

we are travelling with 2 kids ages 5 and 8 in the first week of august.
Current plan is to fly into vancouver and fly out of calgary (back to california).
What are must-see places especially with kids?
Can both vancouver and banff be done in this much time?
plan is to drive from vancouver to banff.
Any recommended places to stay? ideal would be a place with breakfast included or a place with kitchenette.

i'd plan on 3 days in Vancouver...leave Vancouver late in the day so you can enjoy the day there (maybe pack snacks so you can eat "dinner" in the car while you make some miles) and drive onto Salmon Arm and spend 2 nights....then the last 4 nights in Banff.
Curious...have you booked a rental car? Which company and what are you paying for the "drop off fee" that they charge for picking up in one city and dropping off in another? People are always looking for the best company for this with the lowest fee.

In Vancouver, the Aquarium would be a good choice with the kids. There's quite a bit to do, so three days would be minimum.

The drive from Vancouver to Banff could take as little as 2 days with a 1 night stopover in between. I've stayed in Golden though there's not much to do there. Salmon Arm looks like a better idea as suggested.

I don't find there's too much to do in Banff... most of it is scenery. You could devote a day to go to Drumheller to see the dinosaur museum with the kids, though that would take a day away from Banff.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. The cost of dropping off at a different place is about 150$ I havent booked yet.
Will update with information once finalized.
