Vancouver & Canada Day

What special is going on in Vancouver for Canada day? I'm staying downtown at the Hyatt that day. How is the hotel/location/things to do? Will there be fireworks?

Hi:
There is a big (approx.100,000) annual
celebration at Canada Place - music,
displays, etc. plus fireworks. Canada
Place (aka The Five Sails) is just
down the street from the Hyatt on the
waterfront. Good viewing on the decks
around the Convention Centre/Hotel.

Check Tourism Vancouver website for
info. Hopefully, it won't rain!

Also Granville island has a lot scheduled; I walk there from downtown although some might want a bus. This and others are detailed on various web sites which you should review - just google Vancouver events.

The fireworks were cancelled last year... so I'd check as to whether they're on this year. Might be permanently gone.

I think the fireworks at Canada Place were cancelled because of major liability questions, (i.e. on the decks around the Canada Place property). Unless these have been settled to the Corporation that runs Canada Place's satisfaction they won't likely be renewed. However there are parades, festivities, multicultural events and much more going on all over Greater Vancouver so llamalady advice is good. Check the Tourism Vancouver website for more info.
