We are trying to decide on a hotel in Vancouver. Our group consists of my husband, myself and two teenage daughters. We are looking for a safe hotel that is located close to a tourist bus stop (such as Big Bus)and close to attractions. We will be staying in Vancouver in early July and then will be traveling on a cruise to Alaska. We considered the Marriott Residence Inn Vancouver but read some not very good reviews. We are currenlty considering the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver. Any suggestions, recommendatiosn are greatly appreciated.

Westin Bayshore has a lovely, safe setting on the water at Coal Harbour. If your group loves to walk/tour it's on the seawall, almost adjacent to Stanley Park, with views of North Shore mountains, boats, seaplanes. You're also not too far from Robson Street (another good hotel location) with its great shopping, restaurants and people watching.

Thanks for the help. I'm always afraid to stay 'downtown' in a major city. We like to take organized tours of the city to get acquainted with the area. Safety is always a priority.Thanks again.

OK I understand about being generally afraid to stay "downtown" in a major city. Makes sense almost anywhere...

but I swear that Vancouver is a significant exception. One of the most quirky things about Vancouver is that "normal" people are plentiful on the streets all night long. (LOL - I don't mean the SAME normal people, just circling)

First check the rates for various hotels you're interested in, and then go to www.biddingfortravel.com and see if the rates to be found on Priceline.com are significantly better.

Downtown Vancouver is fairly compacted by the water which surround it, so most of the random hotels you might land on Priceline would be conveniently located.

Downtown walking is interesting in most areas but people are particularly drawn to Robson and Granville streets.

I doubt you're going to have enough TIME to enjoy downtown Vancouver like you'll want to... so feel comfortable just winging it...

We enjoyed the Hotel Le Soleil. The suite consisted of a small living room separated from the bedroom by a wardrobe hallway and the washroom. Nice decor, good location, excellent service.

Quite near the harbour too -- we saw the Alaska cruise boats and they looked fabulous!
