Unusual Ideas for Banff / Emerald lake
 

Hi all

We are heading out to Banff / emerald lake to get married and honeymoon in May this year. but to top it off with will be my Fiances 40th while we are out here but I would love to suprise him with something unusual.. Can anyone suggest any tour ideas or unusal suggestions

For an excellent dining experience try the Post hotel in Lake Louise. Its Probably the best Place to eat west of Calgary and East of Vancouver.

I've never used this service myself, but I once stumbled on the website of Banff Hummer Tours and Safaris. It might be an idea (if you aren't already using it for your wedding).

Don't be surprised if the lakes are still frozen in mid May! Emerald Lake is not all that high up, but it freezes most winters.

I live in the area that you will be visiting. Bob is right...Emerald Lake will more than likely still be frozen over but still a beautiful place to be. Try checking out an icefield helicopter tour. There is a company about halfway between Banff and Jasper near Cline River...I believe it is Icefield Helicopter Tours - excellent outfit. There is also the option of heli-touring out of Golden or Canmore. They also do glider tours out of Golden B.C.down the Columbia Valley(very quiet, no engine of course). One more suggestion...Golden is home to the Northern Lights Wolf Centre. Check out northernlightswildlife.com for a unique adventure. I have heard great reviews.

I can't remember the name of the outfit but there is also a local guide who does dog sledding...name is "howling somethin'" Might be a bit late in May...but ya never know.

Hi there I did look at the dog sledding and sleigh rides, but when I enquired I was told its too late. All the more reason to come again in winter.

A dinner suggestion... if you are doing the Wolf Center in Golden. The Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is home to the highest restaurant in Canada at an elevation of 7700 feet. Further to Karla's suggestion, the Eagle's Eye restaurant at Kicking Horse has two guest suites. They're quite pricy, but would be a great surprise: dinner and breakfast is included, as well as a personal valet service.

When you say it has guest suite, where would I find out about it, I've been on the web site but I can't see how to find further info

Here's the winter site for the suites. Obviously in summer the ski package wouldn't apply, but there would probably be an appropriate activity. It will give you an idea however, and you can check back when their summer site is opened, or call guest services for more info.

FYI...when Eagle's Eye opened a couple of years ago I was invited along with other area business people for dinner and a tour. At that time the rate for the suites was quoted to us at between $1000.00 and $1200.00/night CAD (As they say...location is everything!)and as laverendrye stated you have a personal valet throughout your stay. The rooms themselves were cosy and simple, not huge. I believe they were situated above the kitchen area of the restaurant.
