Twillingate in September

In trying to plan our 10 day itinerary to the island in September, we are arriving in St. John's and departing from Deer Lake, I had originally thought we would visit Twillingate on our way to the west coast. However, given that it won't be iceberg or whale season, should we choose another area to explore instead? Are there other reasons we should be thinking about visiting Twillingate? We'll be coming from Trinity/Bonavista after spending time in St. John's. Wondering if we'd be better exploring the Avalon before heading north and delete Twillingate from our itinerary. Would appreciate any comments. Thanks!

I think you could leave Twillingate off. You will be doing a lot of driving and seeing so many amazing things. I would say that you are better off spending the extra time in the other areas.
I would say 2-3 days St. Johns and Avalon peninsula, 2 days Bonavista/Trinity/Elliston and the last days in Gros Morne and L'Anse Aux Meadows.

I think, with that limited a time frame and a lot of driving planned, I would leave Twillingate off. September can be fabulous in Gros Morne--weather still comfortable, and nearly all the visitors gone. Then again, St. John's needs at least 2 days, I think--Cape Spear, Signal Hill, downtown walk, the Rooms--then pick maybe the basilica, Fort Amherst, or the GeoCentre. An extra day would give maybe a hint of the East Coast Trail, or a trip down the Irish Loop--lots of possibilities for the Avalon area.

Thanks so much for your comments. I was coming to the same conclusion. I think we'll take that time to further explore Avalon. Also wondering if there are any suggestions on stop overs between Trinity and Gros Morne that are worth spending a night. Appreciate your help!
