Turks and Caicos the new 11th province?

I read an article this morning (local Boston paper) - apparently there are talks that T&C may very well become Canada's 11th province. Hmmm...

That is SUCH an old story. Sometime in the mid 70's the Turks & Caicos made an unofficial application to become part of Canada. It was heavily promoted by a Toronto area Liberal MP but after minimal consideration the Trudeau Government felt they didn't need the aggravation and that was the end of it. I think the MP tried to keep it alive for a few more years but even the T & C's decided not to pursue it any further. I havn't heard anything more about it for at least 15-20 years.

This story has been resurrected recently.

Here is a link to the article in today's (22 Jan 04) Edmonton Journal:

Yep, an old story. But I could see myself on a beautiful beach, not thinking about Winnipeg winters. Too bad it didn't happen!

Just letting you know that Turks & Caicos, Canada's 11th Province has been ressurected. I can assure you the topic is alive and well. Alberta MP Peter Goldring has a Motion on the table waiting to be discussed in Parliament. I have been doing a Petition on Turks & Caicos joining Canada for months now. This Petition will accompany the Motion when it is discussed in Parliament...check out my website at: www.4caribbeandream.com for much more info. Feel free to get signatures and mail originals back to me asap. Best Regards to all...Pam Stewart-Crawford..ps. spread the word and my website...thanks, Pam

The Original Post here is 8 1/2 years old.

Pam,
Any progress?

As a Canadian and somebody w/ an interest in T & C, this concept intrigues me.

Hi OB1

With our economy the way it has been the last few years, things have come to a bare minimum as far as activity on the islands. I am looking into other islands besides T&C. They have become very independant, and therefore may not be the ideal island to go after! We shall see! I would like to start heating things up once again!

Thank you so much for your support!

Kind Regards,

Pamela Lee (formerly Pamela Stewart-Crawford)
