Trip to Cape Breton July
We will be touring Cape Breton after visiting Halifax 2nd week of July. Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice hotel--also average price--in Cape Breton that would be convenient to the whole trail or do we have to change hotels?
|
Base yourself out of Baddeck for the trail. If you don't want to hike, you can do a leisurely drive around in one day. Baddeck is a quaint little village.
|
i was there last summer. when i left baddeck, i then drove to fort louisburg and spend the day there. then i drove to port hawksbury for the night. stayed at a very nice little motel called capeway motel - 624-2524 - it was very reasonably priced, nice owner, clean rooms. then it was an easy drive onto halifax the next day.

We LOVED Cape Breton!
But...we were there in Sept a few years ago in a very unseasonable warm spell. And few places have a/c. If it's feasible (and we keep meaning to do this no matter where we travel --whether it's a motel a hundred miles from home or a thousand)...it'd be a good idea to pack a fan, as large as your luggage will allow. But - Cape Breton was/is a special favorite in our memories! |
May I ask what 'ttt' means?
|
It means "I'm wanting this post to go back to the top of the list so more people will see it and hopefully respond to it." Sometimes people will write "topping."

to the top..ttt

AHA, thank you

Here's the link to the government owned resort properties in NS. The one on Cape Breton Island is the Keltic Lodge. Although their prices are a bit over my budget, you might want to consider dining at the restaurant one evening? http://www.signatureresorts.com/

We camped so I can't help with accomodation, but be sure to visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck. We spent half a day there - with the kids and their limited patience. It is a great place. And the golf course next door is also pretty nice.

We too, will be touring Cape Breton area and I was thinking about staying in Margaree Forks area since it seems closer to the park. Can you please tell if there is a major disadvantage to this logic?
|
What I can suggest to you either would be a place called the Inveary Inn or The Celigdh coountry lodge located right ointhe heart of the Village of Baddeck. As for staying in Maragree forks there are also great places there too such as the Duck cove Inn maragree is about 45 min from baddeck so basically there is no major differnace except for night life hope this helps

Thank you for the information--I will see if I can find these hotels on the internet.

For lodging ... Baddeck in July - you want to ensure you have a/c. I would recommend staying right in the village. Dunlop Inn may be a choice. Telegraph house has a few rooms that have a/c but not all. Not a bad spot - old but well kept with a lovely dining room. I believe both are owned by the same people. They also have a house they rent out (3 bedroom, 1.5 bath) which is why I asked how many in your party. It used to be $169/night and the cleanest place I ever stayed in! The Inverary Inn is lovely, located directly on the lake with lots to do.
Baddeck is a very charming and quaint village. Very friendly! The Yellow Cello offers evening entertainment while serving up some decent food (pizza is most popular). The Marina offers the only place you can get a drink without eating (Baddeck is considered a "dry" town). Enjoy the deck while watching the activity on the water. If you want to take a dip, take the complimentary ferry ride across from the marina to the small island. Make sure you do the Alexander Graham Bell museum. We had a great breakfast at a little diner at the top of the village - don't recall the name but the inside was all violet. They had paper bags hanging in the doorway to prevent flies from entering the establishment. The Baddeck Lobster suppers are popular and run from 4-9 each evening. Enjoy your visit! |
