Travelling with a DUI record.

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have been out of the United State. I am going to get married in the spring of 2017. And we are planning to visit Canada in the summer. My fiance has friends in Montreal who will arrange us accommodation and be our guides.
My question is can I travel to Canada if I have been convicted of a DUI? It's been 3 or 4 yrs after doing my time in rehab. I changed from my old habits. Ther are no other records since then. So, are there any procedures that have I take in order to permit my entry into Canada?

Yes, sometimes, but there are hoops.
From the Canadian government website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...conviction.asp

Another site from a law firm (they are trying to sell their services, but at least give some advice that may help you in responding to the Canadian government's requirements yourself.): http://www.canadaduientrylaw.com/

The first 2 paragraphs of this from the US government give a summary re Canada (much of the rest is re the US): https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/det...h-dui-offenses

PS: On the http://www.canadaduientrylaw.com/ site be absolutely sure to read the second paragraph of the section "Why Exactly Does Canada Deny Entry to People with a DUI?" ... the part where the border officer has access to the FBI's crime database and may catch you if you lie.

Thank you, elbegewa.

Thanks for those links. I went through them got he clear picture.

Meanwhile, I just read one page when I was googling about Temporary Resident Permit. http://www.pardoncanada.com/travel-t...ian-entry-trp/ Do I have to see a Canadian attorney for applying. Like you said, are they trying to sell their service? Do you know if I can apply directly with Canadian Immigration Consulate?
