Travelling around Canada/America

Hi me and my boyfriend are going over to Calgary next June for a wedding but wanted to travel around first, we have 3 weeks and want to go to Toronto, Montreal then we were going to fly to Seattle then go up to Vancouver and then on to Calgary. How many days would you need in each place? I have scheduled for 4 days in each but i don't know if thats enough.... please help!!

It will help shape a response if you give us a little information about yourself. What are your interests? Are you limited by budget? Will you have a car?

Sorry that would be clever, we do not have a budget so i'm not worried about the money, and we will not be renting out a car either. We just want to see each place and check out the main attractions that are around. I live in Ireland and i've never been to Canada so i've just looked up on google about these places but it doesn't really tell me everything about it and it only shows me the main attractions around and things to do, i just wasn't sure if 4 days would be enough in each or wether it would be too much in some... Thanks again

I would fly to JFK in New York... then to Buffalo NY... from there you see Niagara Falls and then train to Toronto and then Montreal... return to Buffalo via train and then fly to Seattle/Vancouver and then to Calgary three or four days is plenty in each area...

Hi,

I've walked around in all of those places, and even live in one of them.

Toronto is big and sprawling, so of the places you list I think it is the least favorable for walking (and actually getting to cover very much). Of course you can and will get a sense of the place given what you can see when either walking or by local bus.

Montreal is great for walking, and the mix of french and canadian culture there is great.

I suspect that 4-days-ISH is suitable, but if you were to add time at one of those stops it might make sense to add a day or two to Toronto, and maybe rent a car and drive to Niagara Falls.

Seattle is my home, and you can see plenty of what you want to see on foot or on the local bus system. The downtown area is mostly compact, and on the water's edge, with great natural beauty in every direction.

Vancouver is all that and more! It, too, has a compact downtown area, along with a diverse culture the likes of which you won't find in many other North American locations. Be sure to allow at least your 4 days for Vancouver.

Don't know if you're of the mind to do so, but maybe take a bus or train from Vancouver to Calgary to see the picturesque Canadian Rockies.

Calgary itself is a decent place for walking but hopefully your wedding party will be able to cart you around and show you the sights there.

Hope this helps you in some way.

(lets see, 3 weeks = 21 days)

1 for travel

4 for Toronto

4 for Montreal

3 for Seattle

Wedding in Calgary

I think you can do it and really have a great time in every spot!

It sounds like you are interested in big cities mainly? Otherwise, you might want to schedule some time for the Rocky Mountain National Parks as suggested by NorthwestMale, e.g. Banff (which is close to Calgary). These parks are very spectacular. A car would be ideal for independent exploration, however I'm sure there are various bus tours out of Calgary.

Also as suggested, Niagara Falls is a couple of hours drive away from Toronto and is a popular day trip or overnight for visitors.
