Travelers Cheques

We are travelling to Italy and I would like to know which is the recommended type of Travelers cheques to purchase that is,

Travelers cheques in US Funds and convert them as required in Italy

or

Travelers cheques in Euros.

Neither. TCs are dinosaurs. Hard to use, expensive to convert. Why don't you use your aTM for folding money? Most people do these days.

I'm with brookwood on that one. I guess the only exception would be if you were expecting a currency fluctuation not in your favour - in which case I'd be purchasing the cheques in the foreign currency.

Thanks Brookwood for your reply to my query.

Excuse my stupidity but what is a TM?
Is it a money order or do you mean ATM?

I'm sure she meant ATM. This is what most travelers are using these days. Some people take a few traveler's checks with them for emergency situations (broken ATM, etc.), but we gave up on using them at all some time ago.

We use our debit card rather than a credit card, as most banks have added high percentage rates for ATM use.
