What an interesting aside about Billy Bishop airport. Should I ever have the opportunity to fly Porter Airlines, I'll try to remember it.
I have flown in a turbo prop though, plenty of times, because until recently, the main company operating out of our local airport was flying people from Cornwall to London in them. Then about a year or so ago, they swapped to jets, so now you can get there in less than an hour instead of 75 minutes.

Ty for the TR. basingstoke - it was interesting and helpful, and most refreshing to see a grandfather take this level of personal interest during a difficult time.

Thanks to all who responded for their interest and kind words.
Annhig, you expressed an interest in the Hotel Faubourg. I was well satisfied with the stay. This is not a fancy place, but clean with spacious pleasant rooms and a friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast was decent - not gourmet, but filling and tasty with good variety. Even the fire alarm was a positive in that 1. the alarms worked, and 2. on the way down I noticed that the corridor fire doors had deployed - a good thing. I liked that it was right on the 747 bus line and it was an excellent value.
boots thank you for your above thoughts. It had been my practice to take each of my 3 kids on individual week long trips to Europe, each year another kid would have a turn - something they looked forward to. It is important to me that the children be exposed to other cultures and points of view, it was a good bonding experience gave them an early exposure to the adventure of travel. Believe me, with us it was an adventure since we always traveled military space available, meaning we usually flew on cargo flights (some with real seats), never knew for sure where we would be going until called for a flight opportunity and almost never knew where we would stay once arrived - most often we would find a zimmer or hostel and sometimes would stay on an Air Force base. They learned to travel by the seat of the pants technique. DW joined us a few times but mostly when traveling with her, it would be conventional. I think all of this is valuable for a kid and they all grew into adventurous travelers.
