Toronto's best poutine
 

A friend's coming to visit Toronto from the USA and does not have time to go to Montreal.

So I need to know where to get excellent poutine in Toronto.

So far, all I know of is Harvey's.

I posted your request on chowhound.com toronto board. Keep an eye on it over the next couple of days. We have poutine in the cafeteria at work and it looks rather like something that would clog your arteries if you overindulged! Advise your friend......

the classic poutine is french fries, topped with cheese curds, topped with hot gravy

It doesn't sound too healthy. Gravy?

Any advice? Someone told him about a "Rebel" restaurant somewhere on Yonge Street.

I've been told (and a provisor here : I
ve not tried them myself) that the Peel Pub located on King St. East of John St. in the lower level of the old Ed's Warehouse is an OK place for Poutine and a brewski.

Failing that, New York Fries, which can be found in any mall food court or Silver City cineplex will serve up the generic kind.

Chowhound says Mel's on Bloor St. W.

The Rebel House on Yonge Street just north of Rosedale Subway has the best poutine in Toronto. It is a great little local pub/restaurant with fabulous food and local brews. It also has a great back patio. I think it is one of Toronto's best-kept secrets.

FINAL REPORT:

He ended up on the telephone and plugged into the internet working for a client in New Orleans, so had a giro sandwich for lunch, from underneath the downtown office buildings.

Night before, dinner at Crush, where, he reports, the food was good but the portions were tiny. No small. Tiny.

Thanks for the suggestions; he'll try Rebel on his next trip to Toronto.

My nephew, born and raised in Montreal and serving in US Navy, is home for a week. He wanted poutine from under the Bluewater Bridge at the chip truck in Point Edward Ont. We all tried it - it looked kind of gross but tasted OK. According to him it is a once a year treat. I think many chip trucks have a version of it. Do you have chip trucks in TO?
