Toronto visitors take note
I'll say it again for the umpteenth time: do yourself a flavour and go see the Saturday Farmers Market @ the Evergreen Brickworks. There is a free shuttle that will take you from Broadview subway station down to the dog-friendly market in about 7 mins time. The site is an outstanding example of urban renewal, an actual former Brickworks re-imagined with a wide variety of eco-sensitive modern features: a top-quality Childrens Area, a Garden Center, the usual touristy Gift Shop, an overpriced restaurant plus a fantastic man-made marsh hiking area not to be missed. Especially with autumnal colours among the surrounding forest leaves, this a great place for shutterbugs. Excellent coffee booth. And they've added some live buskers.
The market itself is under an open-air roof and is divided into two halves: one for various produce and crafts, the other for hot prepared meals. One finds Brazilian crepes, paella, artisanal chocolate and much more. *Insiders Tip: seek out old Evangelo's goat and sheep cheeses, plus his heirloom tomatos, olives, eggs and olive oil. He is a farmer from the area outside Toronto who also makes the best, if uncheap, natural Greek-style yogurt. He grows the olives on a tiny Greek isle. Best from say, 7:30 til 10 coz crowds haven't yet arrived. Lotsa parking. I am done. The end. |
