Toronto visit at Christmas
 

Family visiting from N.Y. over the holidays and we'd like to go to Toronto for one night. Are there any shows (other than Mama Mia) on at that time? Also do you have a nice hotel recommendation? In a central location at a decent price?

You can check out toronto.com and Toronto Life magazine's website for other ideas. As for the hotel, the Sheraton Centre is around $200 CDN per night, the Comfort Suites on Jarvis and Richmond are $130 CDN. Check previous posts on this site for lots of TO hotel info.

Cambridge Suites consistently rates as very good place to stay. Close to the PATH and subway. Easy walk to Eaton Place. restaurants and theatres on Yonge and King.

I just booked a couple of nights at Cambridge Suites. They have a great deal (I booked between Christmas and New Years). $139 night includ. continental breakfast.
Now can someone recommend some nice restaurants in the neighbourhood?
Also looks like there is very little in the way of shows at that time of the year.

Bashful, there are a million good restaurants in Toronto, so can you narrow things down a bit for us?

The hotel is at Richmond and Yonge.

Walk to Yonge, turn north, walk four blocks north (Queen, Dundas, Edward to Elm) to Elm, turn left / west and walk to almost the end of the block, to Oro.

This is a limit-your-conversation and pay-attention-to food kind of fine dining restaurant.

Or, walk theother way on Richmond to Church, and turn right/south. Walk a few blocks past Adelaide and King to a small side street called Colbourne (or a very similar spelling) turn right-est and walk about thrity feet to Spanelli. Very good Italian food, but not so taste-intensive that you have to stop talking to enjoy.

Both these are medium expensive.

Hello:

The big thing next week shopping wise
is the opening of the Vaughn Mills shopping centre in the northern suburban area. The mall is located on the SE corner of Highway 400 and Rutherford road on November 4.
There is also an Ikea in the same area plus two huge movie plexes and three power centres with discount outlets and a Chapters/Starbucks on Highway 7 just west of Westin Road.

Exit QEW on Trafalgar Road. Drive south
on Trafalgar towards Lake Ontario to the traffic lights just before VIA rail underpass. Turn right on Cross. Food is definitely worth the visit.
After dinner, drive south on Oakville to the Lakeshore and stroll the downtown/marina area. Drive back to
Toronto on Lakeshore Blvd.

Gelato: Hollywood Gelato, 1640 Bayview Ave - (416) 544-9829

Sushi: Akasaka - 5095 Yonge St., 416-222-8188. Subway: Yonge Line Northbound: Station: North York.
(Exit subway to Yonge Street east side and Loblaws supermarket. Akasaka is on the street level) Parking is available in the Parkade entrance on Empress Avenue.

Other restaurants on my list but have
not tried are:

Canadian: Canoe - 66 Wellington St W Toronto ON 416-364-0054. On the 54th floor of the TD Centre - great view and without the hassle of dining at the CN Tower.

French Fusion - Susur - 601 King St W 416-603-2205. Susar Lee is one of Toronto's top chefs. (Take a cab or King Street westbound car)
