My husband and I will be vistiting beautiful Toronto Sept 24-the 27. We are taking the fast ferry, The Breeze. Where does the ship dock? Is there public transportation nearby or just cabs? Should we bring a car or leave it home? Will most hotels allow you to store your luggae there prior to check-in ar after check-out to accomodate the ferry's limited schedule? Is there a good hotel near where the ferry docks?

Are there any good hotels that are near the subway system?

I am not sure about where the ferry docks so I can't help with that. We just stayed at the Cambridge Suites and the location was great. We were right off yonge street close to queen street subway station and king street subway station. They also had a late check out time - I think 2pm.

There's shuttle service from the Breeze terminal to downtown, plus cabs, so you can get away without a car, and if budget is tight, you'll save money on parking and the ferryboat fare.

And you can get around Toronto easily without a car.

That said, I'd take your car, just for convenience.

The ferry docks in a grungy part of the undeveloped harborlands, and the terminal is generally an embarrassment to Toronto. There's nothing near it that matters.

There are no hotels there, but you would not want to stay there anyway.

If your luggage is in your car, you don't have to worry about pre-check-in and after-check-out storage, but yes, most hotels will help you out.

Depending on your definition of "near the subway" system, all the good hotels are near.

There are some hotels where I'd probably take a streetcar from near the hotel to a subway station, rather than walk, but it's a tight choice.

For instance, if you are in front of the Holiday Inn on King, and can see a streetcar approaching, it will be quicker to wait for the streetcar, get on, and ride to the subway stop at King and University Avenue. But if you can't see a streetcar coming, it's quicker to walk. Same for le Germain, which is sort of across the street from the Holiday Inn on King.

Fairmont Royal York, King Edward Meridian, Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, Journey's End, Victoria, Strathcona, Courtyard Marriott and Yorkville Marriott, Pantages, and some others are within a block or two of the subway, and other hotels are within three or four blocks.
