Toronto parking
 

Hi, we are coming in to Toronto via the 401 from Windsor on Saturday, November 9, departing Monday, November 11. We are staying at the Delta Chelsea and are trying to avoid big parking fees. I tried to find Go service from Kitchener/ Brampton/Oshowa but it looks like trains don't run on Saturdays and we would rather not take a bus.

Does anyone have any advise for us as to either leaving our car somewhere and taking public transportation in to the city, or somewhere to park when we get there that does not cost $25 or more per day?

The giant hotel at 33 Gerrard W. has left the Delta chain and been rebranded the Eaton Chelsea. Underground parking there is $30 plus taxes. That's a typical big-city price, sorry.
You can Google for guides to parking garages such as this http://parking.greenp.com/ Don't expect to be much under $25. A commuter service from outlying centres won't save enough money to compensate for the major waste of time.

Check out OISE (Ontario Studies in Education), part of U of T, west of Avenue Rd. and east of Spadina, just north of Bloor. Handy to the St. George subway station. Decent weekend and overnight rates.

Just realized you already have accommodation booked, so OISE maybe not the most convenient.

Is there a reason you want to take the 401 all the way to Toronto ?
It is much shorter and quicker to take the 401 , and at Woodstock, take the 403 all the way in to Toronto.
You enter the city from the south end, which is where you are staying.
If you still want to consider parking outside the city, the GO trains run on weekends from Oakville and Burlington . You'll be very near the GO stations when you come in via 403.

Thanks. I didn't realize that the 403 was easier. I have taken the GO from Burlington in the past and found it to be convenient. I'll look in to that. Thought maybe there were public parking lots near the Chelsea that were cheaper on weekends.

Oakville station would be a bit closer for you, but Burlington would work just as well.

If you decide to take the 401 to Toronto, another thought is to park at Yorkdale Shopping Centre at the TTC lot, then take the subway to downtown Toronto. Here is the link to TTC parking at Yorkdale. http://www.ttc.ca/Subway/Stations/Yorkdale/parking.jsp

Can you take VIA train from/to Windsor to/from Toronto Union station?

How about trying weekly parking at an airport? Take the metro into city or go train or whatever!

Toronto weekly parking @ YYZ is extremely expensive. So is daily parking which is what the OP wld use Sat, Nov 9 to Monday, Nov 11. And, there is no train/speedy metro to downtown Tronto from the airport. Limo or taxi are the preferred travel options from YYZ to downtown Toronto.

Think driving to oakville and taking the gotrain seems like the least aggravation. Thanks for the help.

Parking overnight at a shopping mall like Yorkdale sounds like a good idea - but since it is private property and there are nearly always rules about overnight parking, you might return to a ticketed car, or worse, a car that has been towed by a tow company hired to prevent people from overnight parking. Getting your car back would be a pain ... and expensive.

I don’t think so because the public transportation in Toronto is so good you really don't need a car.Either you can walk, cab, bus, or use the subway, for alot of areas.Otherwise it Depending on where your staying, if you have a car, it will be parked at your hotel for the most part.

I wanted to check in and let everyone know what we did for parking. We drove into downtown Toronto on a Saturday morning. The Green P parking lots have a website where you can put in an address and find parking I found a lot On Larch Street not too terribly far from our hotel that was seven dollars maximum for the day and five dollars next month for the night so $12 for 24 hours. It worked out very well for us and it was very easy to negotiate the website.
