Toronto over May 28th Weekend

We are staying at the Sheraton C. across from City Hall. We are going to the ball game on Sunday. Any special rec's for no car venues near this area for Sunday night- Monday day- Monday night. And what transportation to use, if that's part of the picture.

Thanks ahead of time. It's just 2 of us in our 50's.

That's not a long weekend so I don't think that there will be any special restrictions on cars.

You could walk to the ball park from the Sheraton.

Wear comfortable shoes.

And you are a block or two from two subway stops, and the streetcvar is right outside the front door.

How fancy do you wantyour restaurants, and what kind of food?

There's a medium pricerd steakhouse right in the hotel; an expensive steakhouse across the street, a medium expensive steakhouse a block away.

Plus just about any other kind of food within walking distance.

Since you like basebll, do you likehockey? Hall of Fame is a ten minute walk away.

We have possibly Sat. night -coming in late (don't know how late yet.) Sunday night we can eat around the hotel. We may stop by the Hockey Hall of Fame- I'm sure we will.

My son told us to take the subway to Greektown- to see this Flamingo type dancing venue/restaurant. Is it far and have you ever been? What else are you favorite cultural places- subway or no- that you think we may like. What is a good view?

Thanks- you've helped me already. We may be able to stay until late afternoon on Tuesday. I think it is Victoria Weekend and Monday is a holiday. It's Memorial Day Holiday in USA.

Let me know what your favorite restaurant names are. We aren't high end eaters, more mid-range. We'll have some wine, but we are usually much bigger on fresh and/or unique for the area. What is Toronto representative??

And I have been reading the other Toronto threads, will buy/look at a good map this week, and if we have more time, may get to the zoo on Tuesday.

I've printed out a walk we'll do if the weather is good and time allows starting early on Monday. We're active and can cover more than most in the amount of time we visit most anywhere.

Victoria Day is May 22 - the Monday before your trip.

Greektown is on the Danforth - take the subway north from Queen to Bloor - go downstairs and transfer to the Bloor/Danforth line - take it east to Chester. While I've been in restaurants in that area, I've not seen any dancing but it sounds like fun.

The best overall view is from the CN Tower or for a view south the bar at Canoe although I'm not certain it's open weekends.

There's a good view, although not from high up at Scaramouche restaurant on Avenue Road; ask you hotel concierge about it - the food is wonderful.

There's usually some event or other going on every weekend approaching summer so I'm sure you'll find something to do in addition to the ball game.

There's the Art Gallery on Dundas West and the "crystal" is taking shape at the Museum at Bloor and Avenue Road.

Keep checkking www.torontotourism.com for events.

Thanks, SallyCanuck, I'm going to your views. I was told it was Victoria Weekend and am very glad to hear it is NOT- because things will be open on the Monday we are wandering around. THANKS!

For decent food within walking distance, try Queen St. W... there are several bistros along the shopping area... just steps away is the entertainment district where you will find sports bars, bistros, and good restaurants in all price ranges.... you have dozens of choices... none of them are bad.... enjoy!
