Toronto in February

Hello, I am traveling to Toronto in February. I’ll have a day and a half to sightsee. I’ve read lots of great posts on things to see, places to eat, etc. and have started to put some ideas together. When visiting new cities I enjoy spending much of the time walking around the different areas getting a feel for the city, but I realize that may be a bit chilly in Feb in Toronto. Here are some of the “places to see” I’ve got on my list – CN Tower, Toronto Islands (is this doable in Feb?), Art Gallery of Ontario, Casa Loma, St. Lawrence Market (again, doable in Feb?). I’ll be staying at the Hilton on Richmond St West, and don’t mind walking some distances as long as the weather is not too horrible. What other sites should I see?

I enjoy good food, but prefer it not be served in a super formal atmosphere, I’ve come up with these two restaurants for dinner (Monsoon and Mediterra) and this one for lunch (Dumpling House Restaurant)– anyone have opinions on them or recommendations for others near my hotel?

Thanks so much for your advice!

How chilly Toronto may be in February depends on what type of climate you are used to. To check historic records, go to Weather Underground:

http://www.wunderground.com/

Aside from the Toronto Islands, all of the sights you want to see are certainly do-able and easily accessible walking or by subway. I'd forget the islands, unless you want to take a quick ferry trip there and back to see the skyline from the harbour.

Other places you might find worth visiting are the Royal Ontario Museum ("The ROM&quot, the Gardiner Ceramics Museum and the Bata Shoe Museum, all within a short walk of each other. However, with only a day and a half, you'll have to make some choices.

The ARt Gallery of Ontario is under concstruction, but still open, just with reduced exhibit.

Depending on the days you have free, there may be a free lecture or concert at the opera house across the street from the hotel.

St. Lawrence Market is most intereting on Saturday. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Subway stop is a block fromthe hotel, and that gets you to lots of places. Plus you can walk from the hotel, underground, to lots of interesting places, or at least part way there. (half way to St. Lawrence Market, for instance.)

Any particular hobbies?

CN Tower is best on a sunny day

Hi gr8. I would avoid Toronto Island - it will likely just to too chilly out and also avoid AGO as it is really limited right now with their construction going on.
